Color difference on bumpers?

I recently hade a minor self inflicted damage where I accidentally back my new 2004 TL in to my garage I cracked the tailight and pushed in the bumper. I took it to a place that does all top end cars like Porche, Lexus etc. The damage cost $1,500.00

The first time the bumper color definitely was off. The 2nd time, I believe the color hue or shade was a little off. The painter insist that he used paint above factory specs and said that the bumper will never match the body. He claims that the bumper is black underneath and will always be slightly different shade or hue even from the factory.

Has anyone noticed on their new 2004 TL if the bumper's color is slightly different from the body? I notice a subtle difference but it's definitely a different shade or hue compared to the body.

Any reply is welcomed because this has been bugging me since I got the car back after it was painted twice.

You can PM or email any responses to: eyefocus@earthlink.net

Thanks,

Cory

first off i hope you didn't pay out of pocket for that repair because you got ripped off if you did. Second, a proper body shop CAN match the paint on the bumoer to the car regardless of the bs that they tell you. It's all in the mix and it has been done by plenty of other people and bodyshops.. Yes, there is a slight variation in color from the body to the bumpers on sotck cars fro the factory but that is due to the factory not coating the bumpers with enough paint and should NOT happen. It is often overlooked by manufacturers and some will tell yout hat it is normal but it is NOT normal and CAN be fixed properly by a qualified pro body shop that does custom paint work.

It all depepnds if you can live with it or not. Good luck!

P.S, the bumper color on my TL are slightly off as well however the a-spec body kit and lips are a dead on match to the factory paint and they are mad eof the same material . Go figure they got something right

Same Problem

Had a similar problem with having the rear bumper repainted. Acura repainted. No luck with a perfect match! Arura said this is normal! I don't understand why, but they gave me the same line with the black plastic thing.

bumper covers

I went through 3 covers on my acura and each time (and in different shops) they all said it would be slightly different.

One reason I said in an early post to have the bumper cover all prepared and painted and then swap them over. That means your wheels are not sitting in a body shop for a day which can give you that body shop scent in your car.

I had silver and they said silver was harder to match and always different and they used the factory paint codes. yadda yadda yadda,,,

Much like the others above noted, I have a pretty visible difference between the bumpers and the rest of the car. Acura paid to have it worked on a few times at two different very reputable places, and neither was able to get it to match all that well. It is something that clearly cannot be matched 100% as both placed painted the bumpers multiple times...they both claim that they lost money on the deal as they re-sanded and repainted so many times.

It still should be significantly better than the factory paint. It would be interesting to see pictures.
