Clutch stop for 6sp MT? Or adjusting the clutch to engage lower

I know BMW guys have DIY clutch stops but has anybody here done one or adjusted their clutches. The clutch feels like it grabs fine, but there is a lot of travel on the way up to engage the clutch. Doesn't feel very good. Could be just my clutch but I've heard of others with clutches that catch high also.

No clutch adjustment available for our cars.

We have "self-adjusting" clutches.

this is what I don't get I've heard/read about new owners (btw I bought mine used so it's hard to say what it was originally like) some have said it catches real low and others have said it's really high and this is brand new. I don't know what to assume. But I think a lot more have said it catches too high and doesn't feel normal. There was a thread where people said eventhough it's self adjusting that there are a few nuts to screw and unscrew to get it just right.

Clutch pedal height (and therefore point in pedal travel where clutch engages) is adjustable on my '05 MT TL. I did it within the first few days of owning the car, about a 45 days ago. I lowered the pedal about half to 3/4 of an inch.

The adjustment is similar to our other car, for which I wrote up a detailed "How To" but I won't put the link here as it references another car forum site.

I adjusted the clutch pedal position on that car 3yrs ago, resulting in a huge improvement to how it felt. About 40-50 members of that forum did the same using the instructions I wrote up.

However the TL clutch is much more "normal" feeling than the clutch on our other car, so adjustment is more of a personal taste. I could have lived with the pedal height as it came (it was a bit higher than I'd like) but since it was easy to do (confirmed by taking a quick look at the pedal assembly) I took 10mins to lower it a bit. My wife is the primary driver of the TL and she really liked the lowered pedal position too.

PM me if you want the document, but keep in mind it's for a different car. However the basic principle is the same and the parts are quite similar.

Every manual 3G TL I have driven has had its clutch begin engagement very early in the takeup. Our clutch pedals have a relatively short travel and an even shorter takeup with initial engagement usually occuring early in the takeup. Plus enough clamping pressure occurs early on to get the car moving without much continued let up of the pedal. This has been my experience with the 3G manual TL's I have driven.

If your initial engagement is taking place too high in the takeup and this is something which has developed, suspect your hydraulic control system and/or your auto-adjusting clutch. This should not happen.

well i wouldnt know abotu the hydraulic system. i bypassed all of that in my swap. CMC connects directly to CSC and i love the pedal feel. its about an inch down before the clutch starts to bite.
