Clutch Slipping!

Anyone ever had any clutch problems with the 04? I'm getting slight shudder in the clutch when I let off it right around engagement. I've had a few manuals before and never had a problem before, so I'm not sure what is bad and what is real bad.

I also heard that the 04's clutch is not a cable so it might just be the pedal I guess. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I have a service appointment for some other items this Friday. I'd like to know what the hell I'm talking about and not play Mickey the Dunce.

Thanks

I was reading somewhere that our 3G clutch adjusts itself so that you get the same feel throughout the life of the clutch...

the clutch is hydralic and it does adjust itself automatically so it always engages at the same point through out its service life... a pretty good setup...

in this case i dont think that the clutch itself is shot... doesnt sound like a slipping clutch. it sounds like the clutch is grabbing and causing a shudder during engagment. slipping is normally felt were the the clutch physically slips and the cars speed doesnt correspond to the rpm change.... especially at higher rpm (where engine is producing the most power)

see what acura has to say

The clutch is indeed hydraulic. All of the Acura clutches, except for 1986-1989 Integras, have been hydraulic.

Clutch chatter is usually indicative of a glazed or cracking flywheel. This isn't a safety issue, just an annoyance. I'd discuss it with your servicing dealer. A clutch is a wear item & not subject to normal warranty guidelines, because agressive driving could cause it to fail.

If you have a good relationship with your servicing dealer, he may be willing to drop the tranny & inspect the flywheel, and replace it under a one-time goodwill situation.

Thanks, I'll bring it up on my uncoming service appointment. I know that it's a wear item, but I find it hard to believe that it's on the verge of being replaced due to my driving style. I've put over 100K on other clutches before and I beat the crap out of those, almost asking for it to break. I'll see what happens.

To Bluenote;

Hey Bluenote. This is off topic, but seeing your Fender in your sig really takes me back. I once owned a 1964 Fender Jaguar. I was the original owner of that jewel. And of course, in 1964, a Fender was a real Fender.. not CBS. I also had a Super Reverb amp to go with it.

Oh, Sunburst finish. And the rest of the band also had Fenders: rhythm guitar used a Stratocaster, and bass guitar used (and still owns) a Precision Bass - both also in Sunburst.

There are times when I sure wish I still had that Jaguar.

All 6MT's will chatter. It just depends at what speed & rpm you are engaging. Should you engage the clutch 100% going into 1st with not enough momentum, it will chatter..

Now for other gears, that might be a problem..

I need momentum to engage first gear? I'm really not sure what you are talking about.. you probably need to rephrase that or something

1. I don't feel anything in the drivetrain yet, it's really only at the pedal.

2. It started happening all of a sudden yesterday evening, I have not changed anything about the way I'm driving, so I'm sure it has nothing to do with my speed & rpm.

I'm really just curious if anyone else has experienced this at relatively low mileage, so I know if this is a problem with the car (ie: shitty/defective)

I meant to update this post right after the appointment in case anyone was interested.

My service rep told me that he could not feel it when he drove it, and that the head tech told him that there was mention of it in an article in Road and Track, and that it's not uncommon in the TL. I'm not sure if I buy that, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since it's on the paperwork that I brought it there for the clutch, and because my rep told me to see if I can get some more solid info on the circumstances around it happening, and bring it back if it gets any worse. I can live with that, since they have been great so far and I happen to know my rep from High School as well.

I noticed over the past few days that I only feel the vibration in the clutch when the car/tranny is warmed up real good. I'm not sure if that sheds any light on it, but I'll keep paying attention to it.

On another note, my Brembos were sqeaking something terrible almost since the day I got the car, and they just replaced both front rotors and both front sets of pads. In addition, they gave me a GOF and rotated the tires. All they charged was $10 for NYS inspection that I didn't even know was coming up!
