Cleared Type S Tails....NEED HELP!!!

So i decided to clear out the type-s tails for my SSM TL and the left side tail light came out perfect as shown here:

When i started to do the right side tail light, unfortunatly the clear part from the original tail lights cracked accross the middle of the clear diffuser as shown here:

The crack is in the middle and goes completely accross the diffuser.

For those how have done this mod i have a couple of questions:

1. Has anyone done the cleared type s tails without this diffuser?
2. Is light output affected without this diffuser? if so, how?
3. In your opinion, does it look better with or without the diffuser?

Also if ANYONE in the NY area has a right side tail light that they are not using and can spare one, please let me know, im willing to come pick it up if your not to far. I live in Queens. It would be greatly appreciated.

So this is what i have right now:

Cant really finish until i get this piece, just had some questions about it though since im stuck right now. Any help would be great. Thanks

somone here has done it without the diffuser... he said it looked nice like that. but he never posted any really good pics of it.. When I do this mod, I was hoping to take the diffusers out. The original guy said that you could clearly see each LED just like a g35.

I have cleared tails on my SSM. I pulled the frosted pieces that cracked on you out. Yes you can see the led boards and yes they look good. A little brighter too. You have to look to see the boards too. They're noticeable, but don't take away from the cleared look. If you're interested I'll shoot you pics.

Actually you need that diffuser that cracked. Its the only way to cover the LED circuit board and protect it in case water or condensation gets in somehow. The frosted piece that goes over the LED circuit board can be removed and discarded, which I have done. and looks better IMO. There are two pieces, the clear diffuser and the frosted diffuser. You can discard the frosted one, but have to keep the clear one. The clear one is the one you have cracked, just to clarify.

Good luck with the project. I love that cleared look, but not brave enough to try it myself. Guess I'll just keep admiring people with the guts to pull it off.

Well since I thought it was the frosted one you broke, then I would just buy another taillight.. I am pretty sure you can get one side on ebya for not that much..

I'll take some tonight of them lighting up. They are noticeably brighter during the day too. If you're asking how to get the lens out after it has been sealed, you have two choices; first unseal the fixture and remove the frosted lens or the second option (which is what I opted for) is to leave them sealed and break the frosted piece into small sections with a pair of needle nose or something similar. If you go that route, just don't break the black inlays. You'll see what I mean when you flip the light over and take the black cover off. I opted to go this route because my lights were already sealed and had no leaks. That was something I didn't want to mess with...

Hey deadgame28, was it my frosted removal thread that sparked your interest in removing the frosted diffuser or you just thought of it along as I did? IMO, its the best mod I think and lights up beautifully at night and during the day.

Here's clarify with pictures:

Clear diffuser which you NEED:

Frosted diffuser which you DISCARD (if you like):

Here's my tail light mod thread where I removed the frosted diffuser:
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-photograph-gallery-96/new-tail-light-mod-brighter-leds-better-looks-723092/

I highly advise everyone who does the clear tails to remove the frosted diffuser as it makes a day and night difference. (Also be sure to removed those stupid stickers off the led circuit board as those will see through the tail lights since the frost is gone. Theres like 8 stickers in 2 rows.....U'll see what I mean when you look at the circuit board.

THanks for all your help guys, i guess ill have to get another tail light then to get the clear diffuser. and i think i might remove that frosted diffuser like you guys said, especially if its going to be noticably brighter.
