cleared and blacked out headlight pics

I have been thinking about clearing and/or blacking out my headlights. I have seen lots of options and ways of doing it and have been thinking about possibly painting the chrome black and leaving the amber reflector or removing the amber and leaving behind the reflector chrome.

I would like anyone who has done this mod to post up pics, close up shots, of what your personal preference was.

Your opinions are all welcome, so feel free.

My TL is a WDP full a-spec with ebony and i just feel like although it is nice, it isnt different. i have to try something to set it apart a little further.

what i really wanted to do and didnt think about it until after i was done painting my headlights was to take the two pieces that get painted (if you black out your headlights) down to a body shop and have them color match everything. that would be different and look good...though you would be without a TL for a few days

yeah, i was kinda thinking about that, kinda like the old 2nd gen canadian A-Specs. But, like you said, the TL has to be tied up for a few days, and with my f'ing body shop it is more like a week......

when you say color matching everything, if your car is WPD, then you would ask the body shop to paint it WPD? Isn't the paint gonna faded or change color with long period exposure to heat from the lamp?

My favorite job I saw(I forget by whom it was done) was the cleared headlights smoked from the inside on that AM

if you just bring the shop all of the thing you need painted i doubt it will be that much. wont take long to spray. i would assume it would be under 100 bucks

i wouldnt think so, but even if it does...i just sprayed mine black, it doesnt match. i would rather have somthing that starts to match and then if it does fade, look like every other blacked out headlight.

i think ferrari's, corvettes, probably others, have the headlights painted the same color as the body. i really like the look of it. it doesnt make it stand out at all but gives it a much nicer look

i have been thinking about it and i think that there are just too many cons than pros when doing this to a WDP. I know the HID don't throw as much heat as the halogens BUT STILL, i feel better using high-temp paint rather than WDP with some kind of additive, if it even exists. WDP is the hardest to paint match to begin with, and i can just see problems down the road with it. The time delay of having the shop prep and paint this part, nevermind how careful they have to be with it also worries me.

i really like the look that Loki went with on his headlamps, except the amber was tinted too dark IMO, i would have either left it, of cleared it:

PLEASE, anyone who has done this POST PICS! I want to see all the different ways of doing it!

i like these too. they were sprayed from the inside, which i will not do, but i think that with painting and amber removal they will look similar.

The way I think of it, since it is inside the headlight and base on different lighting condition, the paint color will never quiet match to car when you look at it (even though it might be matched perfectly when the part is out next to car. I guess as long it is painted other than chrome, it will give out a different look.
