Clear Bra

Hello,
I have a new 2005 SSM TL. I had some questions about Clear Bra for TL's.
I live in Sacramento California.

1. Which Brand is good?
2. Should I do the entire front including side mirrors?
3 Can I do this myself? If not where should I go?
4. What is a good price?
5. Should I put on a good wax before clear bra. (car is only 3 weeks old)

Any other info would be great.

Cosmos13 -- I have an 04 TL (SSM, too) and had the clear bra installed prior to taking delivery.

1. I think it's the 3M product (X-Pel).

2. I had it installed on the entire front bumper, about half way up the hood and on the back of the side mirrors.

3. You should have a professional do this. Talk to your dealer -- and get it done as soon as possible. Ask the guy who's gonna put on the clear bra if he needs anything done to prep your car. That way you will minimize the amount of junk on your car before they apply the clear bra.

4. I paid $600 here in Ohio for the full job (it's negotiable, at least mine was).

5. No need to -- mine adhered very nicely to the clear coat on the car.

I have not had a problem with it. Be sure you take a very close look at it once it's done to be sure there are no bubbles or wrinkles. They have a lot of corners to fit.

All said, it was the best $600 spent on the car. Cleans up real easy with soap and water; bug marks come off in a flash (as long as you keep up with it). You can't really notice the line, especially on our SSM's.

Good luck.

Is it there for the life of the car - or do you need to strip and reapply every couple years. Never used before, but sure wish I had. Cause now my hood, bumper and fenders are all messed up with chips.

Congrats on the new purchase. Maybe I can help with some of your questions about Clear bras.

1. That depends on what you are looking for in the product. Is price a concern? Is wrapping the leading edge of the hood important? Is type of material a factor. What about warranty? As you can see this answer is not cut an dry. Of course for the money we feel we offer the best bang for the buck. Lifetime warranty, 3M film and under 3 bills.

2. When you do a full kit the side mirrors are included in any kit you buy.

3. Self install is not recommended since the success rate is very low.

4. From what I hear about NorCal a full kit installed ranges from $600-1000.

5. You do not need to wax before. You can just wax afterwards.

6. I will be in Rancho Cordova this Saturday at www.onestopautodetail.com doing 5 cars if you want to swing by and check out the clear bra installations from 8-5. I would be more than happy to discuss what options you have and what it looks like.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Chad

Is it "OK" not shielding the platic parts : bumper, front spoiler ? It's plastic anyway

Sure you dont have to, but you know that it is made from black urethane and ir you have a light color car that can turn into an eye sore.

I always hear about not seeing the line on the hood or seeing the line on the hood or only part of the hood is done etc.

How come no one does the entire hood? Why would you stop 3/4 way up?

It is plastic, but painted. Therefore, it will chip and look agly.

He sometimes works out in San Rafael. Best bet is to send him PM to make arrangements and he will work with you. And he does service SacTown and most places on the I-80 corridor. Contact Jeremy or call him at 707-328-5865
