Which cleaner is better?

Well after the winter grunge, I`m looking to "pre-wax" the TL. What would work better for removing road tar specks, old bug marks, some overspray, and make a smoother finish? Claying or a light polish?
I would then do the "Zaino Treatment". Give me some answers!

Claying, without a doubt.

Wash and then clay - claying will remove a lot of the contaminants and prepares your finish. See this link on How To Clay. You can also check the Car Care FAQ in the Wash and Wax forum.

Just make sure you clear out a good part of your day. It's well worth it.

Clay definitely takes out overspray. We took a ton of it off a friends new Galant a year or so ago. Works great if you use it properly.

clays that can remove overspray can potentially be dangerous if not used properly. most of the ones like meguairs and claymagic are very gentle.

Taken from the link Hawhyen51 provided:

Clay is also very effective on paint over-spray. If the over-spray is particularly heavy, you may want to seek the assistance of a professional. Tree sap and tar specks can also be safely removed with a clay bar.

We used a standard Mothers clay bar we bought at Wal-Mart, and although I would've liked to get Maguiars (spelling), but Mothers is all we could find around here. And in any case, it took off the overspray. The overspray was only there from the previous day, so maybe it didn't need to be that abrasive to take it off, but it left the paint looking new. No hairline scratches, swirls, etc.
