Clean Tailpipes

Anyone care to suggest a good method to keep the tailpipes clean? Is it normal for them to be turning black after just a few weeks?

BLACK!! Your car is smoking already?!! Just kidding (I HOPE),The pipes are blackish/ grey from the factory on the inside. On the outside, stainless. Noxon, or another metal polish will clean the outside

All I do is clean them off with a damp cloth and it removes the soot. Then I buff it up with a soft cloth.
