Cigarette smoke while driving?

Hey everyone,

So I was driving back home (in traffic) after work one day and noticed a car in front of me filled with about three guys smoking. I proceeded to turn on my AC,when I noticed smoke coming through my vents. I quickly turned them off, pulled over to make sure everything was okay, and nothing was wrong.

I figured I should replace my cabin filter, so I ordered and replaced one based on member recommendationns from here.

Fast forward to yesterday, and my family and I were driving out to Long Island on the highway, with good flowing traffic (unlike last time) and I just glance to a car on our left and inside was a girl smoking. She then turned into my lane, and while she was in front of me, I turned on the AC, and again, smoke through the vents, however not as much as before (possibly because of speed?)

Is this normal? I never noticed it before the first occurrence, and I thought replacing the cabin filter would help, but doubt it did.

Any sort of light on this would help. Thanks everyone!

at thinking cigarette smoke was coming through the air vents.

It's condensation, not smoke, OP. Nothing to worry about. The fact that someone was smoking in a car around yours was a mere coincidence.

I will say that although I never see smoke coming from the vents, I have on occasion been able to smell smoke from a car in front of me (if their window is open and the person is blowing smoke out the window) or truck/bus exhaust. In those cases, I just hit the recirculate button for a few minutes until i'm no longer in their vicinity.

I've had this happen many times.
humid weather = condensed air coming through vents until car has dry(er) air inside. Also happens when a plane lands in a hot humid country and depressurizes the cabin with outside air.

You've been spending way too much time in the bar section of the Tokyo Hibachi & Bar.

Actually, when I first bought the TL, I had smoke come out the vents and my AC stop blowing cold air. I took it back to the dealer and they inspected it. I cannot recall what had burn out but it was replace under warranty.

OP, this LOL. happens in humid weather from time to time. The "smoke" didn't smell like cigarettes did it?

As far as the people smoking in their cars, soon they won't be able to with the new distracted driving laws and in 2020 the new sprinkler systems that will be mandated in the interior of all new cars.
