"Chroming" the factory 17" wheels. Need info or advice!
I think chrome would look great with my White Diamond Pearl 04. Anyone know anything about this?
1. Is it a huge hassle to have done?
2. What should I expect to pay?
3. Where in Los Angeles shoud I go to do it?
4. Anyone have any pics of chrome wheels on WDP?

I don't know how hard it is to have it done after buying the car but i saw a 04 TL WDP at the dealer with chrome 17"s and it looked great. God for it if it's not too expensive.

AA,
Keep us posted. I was gonna go custom but chroming those alloys would be as good if not better. Dont chromes take a lot of extra care to prevent pitting? Let us know what you find out and I am finally picking my WDP tomorrow and will ask salesman what he knows about it. If anything I will get back on here tomorrow pm. Jim

GREAT DEAL!!!
really it costs that much per wheel? that's pretty cheap...from what i understand, it usually goes from 1400-1700 for all 4 rims...i know a guy who had that done for is IS300 and i believe even other dealers charge that much to get them CHROMED out...i am definitely interested in this...if that's how much it really is, THEN THAT'S A GREAT DEAL...but please people post replies on this because then i would want to get it done also...see if that particular dealer can offer us TL owners a group discount or something...if liek let's say 3-5 people want it then he can probably LOWER the price for all of us...u know what i am saying? so let's work as a team to save money and help that guys business!!! but post replies on the topic...thanks...

I have had the wheels chromed on my 2002 TL-S and my wife's 2002 Mdx. You just need to find a shop with a wheel exchange program. It costs about $475-$500. You exchange your stock wheels(plus $475-$500), for a set of identical chrome wheels that they have in stock. There is no waiting. They will even swap them on the car for you.

Ick on Chrome
I guess I can't think of one car I've seen that I could honestly say looks good with chrome wheels, it's just so ricey or ghetto, it's not stylistic or complimentary to the car. And living in Atlanta.. and on the south side, I see enough of one of every car with it, so I can comment from experience.
But, we're all alllowed an opinion and that's mine, nothing chrome shall ever spin on my car.

well i guess it all depends on what you are into...from what i understand, there are many people in this forum who are in their thirties and forties...so from your perspective, you probably want something pleasing and simple and subtle...and i too would want that at times...but i am definitely willing to see how the OEM 17's look once they are chromed because you really can't say NO OR YES without seeing the wheels first...if they make the car look BETTER then yes, it is definitely worth it...but if they make the car look GHETTO then obviously, i wouldn't want to get mine chromed out...so i guess i will have to SEE FIRST and then decide...so if anyone has any pics of the chrome wheels, please post it up...i have SSM so i would like to see how chrome goes with that silver...thanks...

I don't like big 18 or 19 inch "ghetto" wheels either. And when they have a very ostentatious, larger than life design that just makes it even worse.
But if you think about the factory wheel design, and imagine a Mercedes, Lexus or BMW with white or black paint and chrome wheels, they usually look very nice. When someone puts really big wheels that are too flashy on these cars it totally diminishes the look.
I find that black or white cars with anodized or aluminum wheels tend to look somehow incomplete...the subdued aluminum wheel doesn't quite complement the paint as much as chrome does.
I appreciate the differing points of view.

I passed by the local dealer yesterday, and there were 2 NBP's on the lot . So i make the next exit and turn around, course my buddy in the car can't figure out where im going till i pull in the lot.
One NBP was parked in line with 4 others (2SSM, a green, and anthracite) it was on the end so i could get a good look at it from the side. It just reafirmed my choice in wanted to get NBP, its by far the best color IMO compared to those right next to it.
Now just up on the dealer show area was a NHP with chrome stock 17"s on it. And i just had to sit and look for a while. Course my buddy probably had no idea what i was looking at.
Then i said "that Black TL there with the Chromes, does it look better then the completely stock one over there?" His responce left little doubt. he said "looks much more classy with the Chrome there and no body kit, kinda like those mercades (sp), The other colors look good with the normal rims. But chrome is major upkeep hassle."
I've herd that chrome pits easly, flakes, or lets the tires spin or roll out more easly then if they wern't, if all thats true why would the dealer have them shown up on there displays?

My advice is not to chrome your stock wheels, just buy a real chromed wheels instead, because the cost of chroming your wheels will be somwhere close to the price os a new one, and also put in mind that if you chrome your stock wheels, there won't be any warrenty on that, so if anything happens to them-God forbids-, you'll be on your on.
I thought of doing the same thing, but forgot about it after, you can just look for 04 TL chrome look alike wheel.

Call me crazy but I don't think the tl needs to be blinged out with the shiney stuff. Another option would be to get those rims polished. They strip the paint off and polish the aluminum to a high luster. I think the results would be a lot classier.

I have always felt that chrome looks much better on dark cars. I really like the look of chrome wheels on a black or midnight blue car, but I'm not a huge fan of them on white or silver cars.

I had factory chromed aluminum on a Chrysler 300M. I was worried about maintanance but the finish turned out to be practiclly indestructable. They didn't scratch or blemish like polished aluminum and were very easy to clean because brake dust doesn't stick to chrome like it does to polished aluminum. It would probably be cheaper to just go out and buy them though.

I think that the DWP cars look great with Chrome wheels if they are not to "large" (too much chrome). The thin spokes of the TL should look great. I had chrome on my DWP Millenia, and it "made" the car. My neighbor has chromed stock wheels on his Lexus GS, and they look great also.
I'd like to get mine done ASAP.

I bought an '04 WDP 6MT, NAVI with chromed stock wheels. I think it looks fantastic! I'll post a pic here in a day or two. The dealer had a WDP with the chrome wheels on the showroom floor. It hit me the minute I walked in the dealership. I was instantly sold on the chrome wheels. Very classy looking, IMHO. Of course it cost me an extra $800. Retail was $1400, salesman said he was giving them to me at his cost.

My DWP Millennia and grey Lexus had the stock wheels chromed and clear coated, and they looked great. My Solara's alloys were polished with a grain, and that looked great also, and a little lower key.
Maybe polishing with a clear coat is the best bet? Not QUITE as shiny as Chrome, but dresses up the car.

Damn! Chrome is the way to go! I think that looks a 1000x better than stock. You got a sweet car dude. I bet it'd look even better on my NBP too!:smokin:

Thanks for the compliments!
I don't know who did the chrome job. I didn't even think to ask, but the dealership was Goodson Acura in Irving, TX.
