Chrome plating stock wheels

Has anyone taken their stock wheels and have them dipped to get chrome wheels?

I checked with my local dealer (they work with another aftermarket shop in town who in turn sends it away to get them dipped) and they wanted $1200 to get the wheels dipped.

I guess the process is if the shop that actually has the same wheels already dipped, then you can get them as replacement for $1200. If not, you have to send your wheels off to get them dipped - still $1200. I don't know how this process works, but isn't this too much? I mean, since you already have the wheel, we're just talking about dipping the wheels at $300 each. Anyone know of a shop that can dip wheels for cheeper?

If you do a search, you'll find someone saying their dealer will do a chrome swap for $400 total. Try calling around to different dealers, or maybe find that one. Hopefully shipping won't be too bad. I had my whole car shipped across the country for $600. Four rims ougth to be hella cheaper than that

Got my TL at Downey Acura. They quoted me $600 to chrome my rims, and they must do it there or somewhere close by because they said it would only take 1/2 a day.

Thanks to all. I found a place (Santa Ana Plating) on the web site. They quoted $100/wheel, but takes few days due to backlog of work. I'll probably have to park my car for few days to get the wheels plated. Thanks.

Santa Ana Plating doesn't do a lot of their own chrome work if any. I have tooling plated there for my business and they farm it ALL out. I would be nervous about getting wheels plated there as I have a lot of adhesion issues (flaking) with the tooling I have done there. I understand it's because of CARB regulations here in Cali and all Cali chromers have the same quality issues. Turn around for my tooling is over 3 weeks sometimes 4 with SNA plating.

You are better off looking out of state.

I had the wheels on my Corvette chromed. A place in LA shipped them direct to my installer, then I dropped off the car and my installer shipped them back. It cost $600 for the Corvette. Seems once the 2004 Acura TL gets more common, then places will start offering something similar for the TL's wheels. Anyone know anyone that does this?

I asked my dealer today, since they had a Black TL in the show room with stock chrome wheels... (it looked nice!).

and the price they quoted me was $1950! to chrome my own wheels - that's expensive.

Anybody know anything about "Black Chrome" or "smoked Chrome"? I have Black Chromed wheels, but I was just wondering about the process, if it was similar to "regular" chroming?

Black Chrome - Yes, it is a similar process, but they plate the object with a different metal than chromium.
