Choosing between 2004 and 2005 TL's

Need some advice regarding a few TL's that are available here in Vancouver.
All are basic TL's
2004 TL-50,000KM, sinlge owner, ex lease, US import, asking for $20,500 CAD, Honda dealership. Carproof report looks clean, but strangely enough no service records.

2004TL-80,000KM, single Owner from an Acura dealership, Local BC car. I still need to see the paperwork (carproof, etc), and the car itself. Dealership is asking for $21,000 CAD

2005 TL-80,000KM, sinlge owner from a Chrsyler dealership. Local BC car. Dealership is asking for $21,000 CAD. Test drove this car and felt ok. Need to check minor details, but looked OK last time out.

Is there a particular post in the forums that would contain details i should pay attention to in deciding and purchasing a TL??

Thanks and best regards!

We bought a TL for my wife, and my sister-in-law got one for herself at the same time, in mid April, just over a month ago. We're in the Coquitlam area and bought from dealers in Surrey.

Ours is an '05 Anthracite manual 6spd. It has 11 months of the power train warranty left. Sister-in-law's is a gold (think it's called Shore Mist or something like that) '04 automatic, but the previous owner had bought an extended warranty so it's bumper to bumper for another 22 months or 50k kms (to 130k).

Both were right around 78k kms at time of purchase, and were both ex-lease.

From scanning this site the last 6 weeks the things you should watch out for specific to the TL:
1. Auto Transmission - make sure it shifts positively and firmly
2. Cracking dashboard (only a few have experienced this)
3. Suspension bushings (again only a few have had issues)
4. Uneven rear tire wear (due to toe and/or camber change from carrying rear passengers/heavy loads or lowering of car)

All the other stuff regarding used cars apply of course (make sure it hasn't been abused, been in a major accident, check service records, etc).

I'd try to get an '05 just so that there is still some powertrain warranty remaining (5yrs of 100k kms). Bumper to bumper is 3yrs or 60k kms. A car entering service in '05 would still have some powertrain warranty into 2010, if mileage is under 100k kms.

Other than the above the car seems to be a very solid, reliable and excellent used car value. TSXs of the same model year are selling for about the same price. Getting a TL over a TSX is a no brainer, unless fuel economy is the most important consideration but we were willing to pay a bit more in gas every month to get the luxury, features and power of the TL.

As a reference point my wife has gotten about 15mpg (US gal) or 15.8ltr/100kms over the last two fillups (actual, based on odometer reading and liter fill up at pump, 602km distance, 95.2ltrs) but she drives very short distances (5kms to work) and is not the most conscious about fuel saving methods.

What do I drive? A modded Mazdaspeed6.

PM me if you'd like to discuss our buying experiences further.

The 2005 TL received a passenger airbag cutoff switch and extra stitching on the front seats. There were several minor changes made (such as changes in seat belt anchor mounts). So, not a lot of differences between the 04 and 05 models.

As was said above, theres not much difference in the two model years. I would go over all three cars, and buy the one that is in the best mechanical shape.

CdTrix,

I have no idea why Vancouver prices are so much higher. Its definitely a big difference price wise, but not much I can do, unfortunately.

i have friends in edmonton and their prices are +2k on top of mine...

have you checked the auto trader? there should be more than just 3 or you've narrowed it down to those 3?

btw do not get the imported US car. my friend just found out after owning the car for 4 years that his car was imported with a salvage title.

Thanks for the reply guys, your inputs are much appreciated.
I am probably going to pass on the 2004 EX US car. The paperwork would seem ok, but i suspect somethings up with the car.
I am going to llok into another 2004 local BC car from another dealership. Its got 115KMs on it but a lower asking price $19,000; hopefully I can ask for a much lower price and purchase warranty with the discount.
