Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner

Hey all,

I just wanted to share;

I had been debating on adding some sort of fuel additive to clean out the fuel system in my car for a while now. I did seafoam about a year ago when I got the car but I'd been skeptical for some time about adding anything else.

I've read some pretty good reviews about Chevron Techron before and here on AZ as well so I figured I'd give it a shot. I know there are 100s of brands that claim they have fuel system cleaning properties. My other choice was BG fuel system cleaner but that was around 40$ and I figured I'd try the cheaper one first.

Honestly I'm not 100% sure I even needed anything, but I figured it couldn't hurt....(famous last words)

I had sometimes felt a bit of a rough idle when stopped at red lights (barely) and sometimes when I start it after sitting all night, the car will start but rpms jump down for a second and pop back up. Never was really a problem, I just didn't like it.

So I bought a 20oz bottle of it at Autozone for like $12.99 and poured it in the tank then filled up with 93 premium. I'll post my review of it soon. I'm sure its my "butt dyno" but the car feels smoother already

My neighbor has been a car guru for about 40 years swears by this stuff. He has always said that this is the best fuel additive for the motor, so I have put it all my cars about every year or so and never had a single issue (knock on wood). Not sure if Techron is the reason for it or not as I haven't conducted any lab experiments on it but no complaints at all. Oh, and there were never problems before using it, so there wasn't anywhere that I should have noticed a difference.

If I fill half my tank with Shell V-Power and half with Chevron w/ Techron, will that give me V-TECH.

No one has answered me yet, do I need to start a thread.

No way man. You'd need to put about 80% techron and 20% V.....Since there's more "Tech" than "V" ya know. Duh

I just used it for the first time the last fill up... and I agree, the butt dyno felt a smoother ride with more power and bit better gas mileage. I will use it from now on once a year

I was at an auto parts store that has custom racing application items and debated between Techron and Seafoam and the senior guy there told me Techron is the best and to go with that. I did and my dynobutt confirms it. My car seems to run a bit smoother. More peace of mind. I will stick to that.

For gas I always stick with Shell V-Power.

Orielly as well. Picked up two yesterday. One for the TL and one for the minivan. We use chevron exclusively so I don't know that I'll notice a huge difference.

"Pemium" fuel simply refers to the octane rating of the fuel. It has nothing to with it's ability to keep the intake ports clean. For that you need detergent additives like those found in top-tier fuels (like Chevron & Shell). These fuels already contain detergents (called Techron or whatever).

Would this give the same results as filling up at a chevron gas station constantly?

That's the idea. Of course the people selling the Techron in a bottle will say you need that too (cause they make more money that way). I just run Chevron Gasoline in all my cars and don't ever think about it.

i remember reading a review (here?) where somebody had an open engine of some sort running and observed after adding the techron, the fuel injection became a finer spray.
