Checking out a 3G TL

Hey AZ, I am looking to purchase a 05-06 TL with Navi in either AT or MT
Maybe you guys can tell me if this is a good buy or just general advice.

It has everything Im looking for but I am still a bit uncomfortable with the high mileage despite being well maintained. I will put maybe 10-15k a year on it only with my driving...

-Asking price 14k CAD
-WDP on black leather 05 TL 6MT w/ NAVI, tech pkg.
-One owner
-210k kms (130k miles)! may be mostly highway.
-TB and water pump done at 180k kms
-any recalls were done for it under extended warranty
-new brakes; pads, rotors
-All service/maintenance/receipts and records
-No accidents, clean title
-OEM Brembos, ASpec kit, Aspec rims on summer tires, stock rims on winter tires

I haven't looked at it yet in person, if I do, anything I should look out for?

There is a thread for these questions, literally 4 threads below yours. Five now, with my comment, but still. Post it there.

No way to verify this. Dealers and sellers say this but no way to verify this.

I definitely wouldn't say those are "mostly" highway miles especially for the age of the car. I have a 05 tl with about 125k miles and i definitely don't drive "mainly" highway. I'd say there's a good distribution of city and highway, so i personally wouldn't pay that muchh

Yeah that means nothing...

---
If I drive it to 250k~300k kms it will be hard to sell due to the stigma about high mileage... When its 300k kms (186 miles) what could it sell for you think?

That price is criminal! Where the hell in Canada are you that a dealer would have the nerve to charge that much for a TL with that much mileage?! There are several TLs for sale in Montreal with way less mileage for the same price or less.

A few examples:

http://www.autohebdo.net/a/Acura/TL/...howcpo=ShowCPO

http://www.autohebdo.net/a/Acura/TL/...howcpo=ShowCPO

http://www.autohebdo.net/a/Acura/TL/...howcpo=ShowCPO

In any event, despite the maintenance that was done on it, there are better deals out there.

Please tell me where you live so I know where to sell my car when I'm ready lol.

yea thats waayyy too much money for a car with 130k+ miles. Especially if the carfax shows there is more than 1 owner, i would be cautious buying a car with that many miles. Since this is NOT a cheap honda civic, it will cost you a pretty penny to fix up issues if any arise. Last week i changed my rear caliper and 2 rotors because it was failing to abt $400. And that is because we know the mechanic, or else that could cost up to $600+ just for one caliper and 2 rotors.

Certainly not in a rush to buy a car, but it has all my requirements (WDP 05+, Navi, all maint records, clean) and some mods I would do already done so I was/am tempted to go check it out... But sounds like a bad move from the replies so far lol!

If you can negotiate him down it's not very bad. These engines are built to last, and it has a manual trans so you don't need to worry about the auto tranny failing. Check out the seats for damage, it's pretty common for them to rip on TL's.

Oh, my bad. I missed the criteria about WDP.

Ok here are some more examples:

http://www.autohebdo.net/a/Acura/TL/...howcpo=ShowCPO

http://www.autohebdo.net/a/Acura/TL/...howcpo=ShowCPO

http://www.autohebdo.net/a/Acura/TL/...howcpo=ShowCPO

Time to take a road trip to Montreal brother. More bang for your buck.

I wouldn't offer more than 13K for the car you mentioned. If you can get it for under 13K it might be worth it. Good luck with your search, and take your time.

The car is somewhat overpriced at $14k, yes I agree, but it's worth WAY more than $9k, lol.

Even at 130k miles that car is worth well over $9k (currency conversion as of today sits at 1 to 1.02, so USD and CDN are almost identically valued right now)

It has a-spec lip kit, a-spec wheels AND stock wheels w/snow tires to boot. That by itself is worth $2k easily, lol.

And it's WDP with ebony interior, and it has nav and is 6mt.

for '04-06, that's probably one of the rarest combos you will ever find.

$14k is still too high, but if I were you and I wanted WDP and this one is clean and has all those bells and whistles, plus snow tires and 105k maintenance was done? I'd happily pay $13k for that and wouldn't look back.

edit: out of the links above me that you posted, only 1 of those cars has an a-spec lip kit, and it does not have the a-spec wheels. So the guy wants 10k and it has more mileage than the one you're looking at, it isn't a rare color combination, doesn't have a-spec wheels, and does not come with snow tires + stock wheels.

Thanks for your input i_l_c
If we're talking economics, you're looking at it as a TL enthusiast, this heres a buyers market, for the average buyer, rarity of exterior/interior combo means nothing, the mods already done add only a fraction of their original value...there are many comparable cars like 3 series, G35C G35x... how many buyers are bent on getting a TL like I am, and how many really only want it in WDP? Guess what Im saying is, if Im taking on a car with 130k miles it had better be a good deal (perhaps 10-11k all inclusive)? Correct any statements I made if you think otherwise

The car itself is solid from what I asked the seller, hes agreed to get the CarProof + safety, emissions done already, owner knows what hes doing with the tranny, etc..

well you are definitely correct that I'm talking from an enthusiast perspective.

In general, you are correct that "mods" do not retain value on the resale of the car, however, you have to keep in mind that the a-spec isn't really a "mod" per se. It was a factory option package offered by Acura. That actually ups the value of the vehicle as far as "mods" go, because it isn't some engine modification or anything that would show the car has potentially been beaten on.

The reason most mods don't provide resale value is typically because people look at a modded car and think 'well, this has been flogged', and this pertains to performance mods, usually.

No seller in their right mind would downplay/ignore the value of a-spec wheels and a-spec lip kit on a TL, because it doesn't lower value. To ignore that is like saying that a Nismo 370z isn't any more valuable than a base 370z because the Nismo has a spoiler, sideskirts, and Nismo wheels.

Now, all that being said - that is all completely irrelevant to the fact that if you are looking to max at $11k for a car, then by all means try to get the guy down, and if he won't hit your number, then happily walk away and don't look back. There will be plenty of other TL's out there to buy that are clean with higher mileage.

His price point comes from having a very sellable combination. Any Acura dealership would love to have a 6mt WDP with navi and a-spec on the lot because they can sell it in less than a day. No getting around the fact that there is value in everything he has on that car. Acura dealerships I talk to have waiting lists of people looking for 6mt TL's in particular colors that they can call and will come in and buy the car immediately. I've seen it happen at Acura Brookfield where I am plenty of times as I frequent their lot and talk with them regularly. (yes, i am an enthusiast lol).

again, if your price point is $11k tops for higher mileage TL, I would never recommend overstepping your boundary.

I would say the owner probably let it go for $13k. Rare color combo tho with MT and having navi make it even rarer.

looks decent but I see he actually has type-s rims, not the a-spec wheels. Only the a-spec lip kit is present.

Type-s wheels are still nice to have, but I would much prefer aspec wheels..

Thought that was the full A-Spec kit (front, side, rear) , is it not?

Nevermind I typed it wrong, in his description it is Type S Rims.
