checking oil
I ask cause, i traded in my mazda rx-8 for a TSX (hopefully be able to get TL in a couple of years) and TSX manual says to check the oil at every fill up. On the RX-8 it actually consumes oil so that's something that I always had check. I was hoping I didn't have to do this on the TSX or TL.
This is a typical cover their a$$ statement by Acura. In the event you drive the vehicle to a low or zero oil amount causing engine damage, they can say the manual instructed you to check oil level on a frequent basis.... Thus, warrenty could be voided because you didn't follow the "book".
Also, its a fact that you should check your oil between oil changes. If the manual did not mention it at all, some would never check. Stating to check every fill up results in most checking it more often than not...
Lets admit it.... If it's not all over the ground evertime you park, and if it's not leaving a smoke cloud everytime you drive, it's quite obvious that the oil level is not going to change significantly (by any means) between fill-ups.
Myself, if the hoods up, I check the oil among other items. I've got 1200 miles on my 04TL and I would swear it hasn't burned a drop. Just like my last Honda-hope it stays that way

When I used to drive my Chevies back in the late 70s and most of 80s, it was a common practice to pop the hood while you filled up - every time. Or else, you'd be sorry. That's just the way it was because all my buddies were doing it too. Wheather they drove Fords or Dodge, they all popped their hoods at the gas station. In fact, the only car that I owned and never burned oil between change was my '98 pathfinder. My TL now has close to 2500 miles and not a drop of oil on my garage floor tells me that this is another well engineered Japanese product. I agree with KJS that the verbage in the manual is just a protection factor just incase some shumuck burn their engine up and complain to the manufacturer - like the McD's hot coffee warning. I'm betting that my engine is good as long as I don't see a drop on the floor where my car parks.
Oh, I still check oil before a long trip. Old habbit.
