Check Engine Light after driving hard
Check Engine Light after driving hard
My Check Engine Light came on today. It flashed briefly yesterday after running close to redline for a few seconds Today I was running in the 5000-6,000 RPM range (enjoying the VTEC) and it came on and stayed on.
Checked the gas cap and it was on correctly.
Anyone else had the CEL come on after driving hard?
Planning a trip to the dealer on Monday.

yeah espeically since you were driving it hard you should get it checked out. i know these engines were made to rev but if the check engine is on i would get it looked at asap. is the light yellow or red? if its yellow its a warning but if its red its severe and you need to bring it in immediately.

Thanks I went out this morning and the light was off. I immediatly ran the engine up to 4500-5500RPM in 2nd gear. After about 30 sec the light began blinking. I shifted into 3rd and the light went off.
The good thing is I can now repeat the problem. There is nothing worse than taking time to drive to the dealer only to have them say they could not find anything wrong.

TLJohn,
What's your VIN range? I remember ppl had talked about this issue in Dec., the early VIN (<12xxx or <14xxx) would require to do the software update in order to eliminate this MIL issue (Malfunction Indicator Lamp, or Check Engine Light, CEL...)
Some of them require crank sensor or coil pack replaced if you are late VIN or already got the software update.
Dealers could know what's going on after pluging the device into your ECU...

As you may know, UminChu is another guy having this similar issue recently.
I heard that crankshaft position sensor is too sensitive, and replaced either coil pack on cyl, or crankshaft sensor, or software...
Your car has newer VIN, so the software could be most updated. You may check this thread, http://www.acura-tl.com/forum/showth...threadid=65829, you may find something new after ignoring its software update contents.
Anyway, your dealer should find the problems/errors codes after diagnosing/reading your 04TL. It could help to determine which cylinders or sensors make you headache.
