cheaply changed 06 fog lights to DRL, then independent control
years ago I bought the $30 DRL module and installed it similar to the garage G-067 article. however, the setup wasn't reliable and the module finally went dead after some time. I tossed it out and decided to do the conversion cheaply: just re-wire the factory fog light relay.
the relay is inside the small black box attached to the fuse box. the way it works is: battery always hot on coil one side, other side is controlled by computer which pulls it to ground when fog needs to be on. this energizes the relay and supplies power to fog lights.
I grounded the control wire and changed the always hot coil side to a power source that only comes hot in ON (key position II). costed me virtually nothing. the power source should be pin 9 on the 16-pin connector under fuse box (under hood). this is the only source I can find that isn't hot during cranking. if you tap into the wiper motor power, your lights are on during cranking, not good when you have a weak battery.
after I verified this works, I went a step further by rewiring the control wire to the factory fog light switch on steering column. now, I can turn on the lights whenever the car is running, or off, independent of any other lights. if I leave it at on position, they are essentially still DRL. this involves the not-so-easy step running wire through firewall though. I didn't need to buy anything, no accord fog light switch or harness.
if someone is interested, I can write more detailed instructions and email some pictures. sorry I can't post attachment here.

Glad to see someone finally figured out how to wire the fog light control independently.
I've had the DRL module installed for about 4 months now using a much better fuse holder than the one that came with it. So far, so good. The fogs on normally by themselves without the module may be a little too bright for daytime running lights. The module's advantage is that it only lights up the fogs to 75% brightness, about equivalent to most DRL's out there.
