Changing to a RL

I don't know how to say this, but i'm giving my TL away.
I'm trading it for a 2005 RL, for many reasons starting with the squeeking Brembos.
I came from Canada yesterday morning, and after the long trip which took about 10 hours driving, i had no doubt that its time to gid rid of my TL. I love the car to death, but if the compromise of having a car like that is hearing that squeek which sounds more like a whisle, then i don;t want that car. I feel bad for giving it up after adding all those stuff i have on.
The car was taken to the dealer many times, but they couldn't solve the brake problem, in fact they even told me that my car is their worst case so far, and the car literary squeek every time you brake.
I would love to hear your inputs in this matter, because i'm still not sure, and my RL build date is 10-27
Thanks in advance

69000 can$ for a 05 RL? I'd rather to get a 2005 Audi A6 or Audi new S4.

BTW: u will never know whether there will be the squeeking on the new RL...

I am expecting my RL in the next week or two.

After having had the privilige of driving a RL, you won't be unhappy, it's a much better car than the TL. (it better be for $50k)

RL has similar brembos like the TL. good luck with those brakes cause they might squeak as well. its just the nature of the brembo brakes. mine squeaked for about 4K miles and after that there has not been a sound. you really have to break them in. if that is the only reason you are trading then i think you might be trying to find an excuse to move up to the new RL. the RL looks like a fantastic car but you would be taking quite a hit on the TL because you sold it so quick.

Even if they do maybe the RL's Active Noise Cancellation will help

Caball88 is right. It's just the nature of the brembo brakes. The G35 coupe owners were having squeaking brembos also.

My breaks squeak and I don't have Brembos. I would like to trade up to an RL as well but I'm not that stupid. The brakes are really annoying though. Oh well, I drive my car like crazy so what can I expect. I am hard on my brakes. Hopefully, when I change them they get better. I really love the RL though. If you can afford it, why not. I think it's a much better car.

OK - What kinds of discounts for the new RL?

I have the auto tranny on my 04TL and NEVER hear any squeeks from them. Maybe I got lucky? But I too am interested in the new RL but have found no forum site for that car. Can you point me in the right directions? What kind of discount (if any) are you getting on these new orders?

its not the nature of the brakes... i have 13k miles on my car and im a teen who definatly uses them... not a squeek... my friend has the G35 sedan manual, had for about 2 years, new pads but no squeaks...

it could have to deal with weather... i find it hard to believe that the dealership cant figure it out unless they replaced all the front brake components on the car, and the car still squeaked.

but as for the switch... i can see why would might want to switch out of the TL, but when going into a first year RL you might face different anoying problems. I would rather go with a tried and true model of either Acura, or some other make where i know of the flaws in the car before i buy it.

2005 RL doesn't have Brembo breaks, its has a break system similar to what is on the NSX, or acutally its the same break system.
I love my TL and i can afford to keep it and get a RL, but when poeple come and tell me "Nice ride dude, but can't you afford new breaks!" its just .......
And like i said before, my case is worse than others, because i have friends with Tl's, Infiniti G35 and Nissan 350Z, all with Brembos and never heard them squeeking, so why I?

What do you do for a living to afford a TL and RL? I'm looking for a career change.

squeeking brakes is something that you have to understand is going to happen now days. has the dealer swapped pads out yet? have you tried to bead them in. all those should help eliminate squeeking brakes.

I'm just using the G35 coupe 6mt as an example. I'm not saying it's a bad car. I love the G35. It was my first choice until I test drove the TL 6mt. Other cars with brembos are the STI and the EVO.

The G35 sedan 6mt doesn't come with brembos.

I can see going to an RL if it was priced in the low 40s as originally thought...but $50K for an Acura sedan seems like a lot. I really, really like the car, but way too many alternatives for $50K, many of which are just better cars IMO

I don't know what the big deal is with Brembo brakes. My stock brakes are fine, don't squeak and I haven't hit anything so I guess they are working just fine.

First year RL??? Your 04 TL is also a new gen model..."tried and true model"??? what are you talking about? A new 05RL isnt any different than getting a 04TL...

Just sat in the new 05 RL today, the interior is quite impressive although I did find it somewhat relatively cramped for a car of this class. The TL feels bigger in the front at least and the layout in the TL, in terms of the buttons. I didn't really like how all the climate and radio controls in the center console are so tightly squeezed in, with the entire console being rather narrow. But overall the interior screamed quality, with a good amount of real wood blended in with metallic accents and the paddle shifters felt cool, and the gauges looked nice, with metal trim around the edges and the display said Welcome as I opened the door. The leather was very soft, although still perforated as in the TL, the difference being the leather on the sides/edges of the seats being considerably softer. I was surprised as to how small the trunk is, a car of this class should have a much bigger trunk, fitting more than one suitcase will be a challenge.

Get padded.

Over 90% of the time brake squell can be fixed by lubing the backs of the pads OR changing to a pad with a different composite material. If it isn't that then the calibers could be loose or the mounting bolts might be slightly undersized. Just because they came from the factory that way doesn't mean the engineer that spec'd that bolt didn't make a mistake. I'd put my money on changing pads. On the other hand, if I could talk my wife into letting me get a new RL because my TL's brakes squelled I'd do it in a heart beat. Good luck whatever you do.

I would love to get an RL. But it is also a good idea to wait for the new GS and M35 AWD to come out first. Test drive them all than make your final decision.

I'm curious as to why will you trade in a first year build for another first year build because of quality issue?

Brembo brakes suck. They suck on all cars that there on. Nissan, Volvo, and Acura. Every car with them squeaks. This is one reason Im leaning toward the automatic TL to avoid the issue.

I like the RL but like others said, for 50k there is a lot of better cars out there.

Personally, for 50k I would go with the cadi cts V.

Good luck

For $50k the RL should have ventilated seats.

Unless I am wrong, I do not think the new RL has ventilated seats. HEAT only.

Heated and cooled in Canada. Three fans in each seat I believe.

lol sorry to confuse you... wasnt even thinking about the TL when writing it. Im saying that if your going to go towards a switch because your current car sounds cheap on the inside, while the RL is more expensive and it is made in Japan, it might have other recal problems causing more headaches...

"but if the compromise of having a car like that is hearing that squeek which sounds more like a whisle, then i don;t want that car."

how do we know that the RL will be better? we dont, its a first year, thats why i am saying that he should maybe go with a car that has been out for a while maybe in its second year atleast and been on the boards, knowing what problems to expect before buying the car.

the TL, although a new gen model, is not a first year production car, we have the same engine and drive train as the previous TL (auto) and CL (manual), the only thing that is new is the design of the interior and exterior with some gadgets and lighting... the RL however is a true first year production car because the drive train is new and the engine is new as well (modified MDX engine I believe)

Umm since you already got a feel of Acura, why dont you go for something like a BMW 5 series, very classy, a little less horse power for the starting series as compared to the Tl and the RL. But those 5s are great. Just my two cents though.

Although my 6-MT TL is plagued by the window squeeking/popping syndrome, the Brembo brakes have been quiet and very effective. Brembo makes good stuff, including the brake on my Honda RS125 race bike which does one-finger stoppies. I bedded the TL's pads carefully for the first 200 miles, and that's all it seemed to take. They do generate quite a bit of dust, but I found the Griot's Garage wheel cleaner takes it off easily.

Your sweeping generalization is incorrect. Not every car with Brembos has a problem with squeaks.

In many cases, the problem is a misinformed purchaser who doesn't understand that aggressive brakes make noise at times, particularly with aggressive pads. Brembos have been OE on Porsche and many other cars for a long time (not just Nissan, Volvo and Acura), and continue to be highly-sought after both in OE and aftermarket applications.

I have Brembos on my TL, and they have worked flawlessly and without squeak for 20k miles. I'd love a set of Brembo GTs for my NSX, but haven't had the coin.

I've had my 2004 TL for almost a year now, and have never had breaks that squeek. It's a great car. The new RL is a better car. Sit in one and it is just much more luxurious. It is a quality car and won't have the mechanical issues that so many of the German cars have and all of the American car manufacturer's have. Cadillac CTS instead of an RL? LOL, that poster was joking, right?

Go to your Acura dealer and take a look at the new RL. It's awesome.
