center console light

Does the light in your console turn off when you close the armrest? Mine seems to stay on the whole time my headlights are on, regardless if the compartment is open or closed. I would think that the light would turn off when I closed the compartment.

lol....reminds me of :
does the light in the refrigerator go off when you close the door?

seriously, it's probably on whenever the headlights are on, because I don't see a little switch under the lid anywhere.

Is it a bulb or an LED?
If its an LED, it does not matter as they draw so little power.

This light was the first problem on my car, the sliding cover over the
cup holders seems to have snaged the wires and pulled the light inside
the console breaking the clear/white cover inside the center console.
I was going to glue it but the bulb is gone....

I guess that will be my first warenty repair....

it's a bulb, only the gauge cluster and ambient light use LED's, everything else in the car is a standard bulb

that little bulb seems to get hot. Anybody have problems with the bulb melting the plastic cover? I'm somewhat relieved to know that it is not independent of the headlights...now I know that I didn't screw something up when removing my console! Thanks guys!

That light is not controlled by a separate switch and stays on whenever the head/parking lights are on. Additionally, the light in the glove box is also similarly configured. It seems that Acura saved a few pennies by not adding switches to these circuits.

Being an incandecant bulb does not worry me about how much power it takes, but rather how long it will last if it is on whenever the headlights are on.

it will probably las a while since most people don't leave their lights on everytime they drive

even if it does burn out, it costs $2.42 to replace or cheaper if you goto a local store

Same thing with the glovebox light -- no switch for the door, it comes on when the headlights are on.

It seems a rather silly thing to worry about. I'd venture that any switch on the circuit would probably fail before the bulb in its current configuration will fail. And if the bulb is drawing a watt, it's not going to affect much of anything at all. It isn't a high-intensity bulb, so it will probably last a long, long time, too.

Nonetheless, there's another candidate for an LED mod.
