Anybody with a CBP TL-S ever had a paint job done at a body shop? If so, did they have a hard time matching the paint? Or did it look like factory? Reason I am asking is because I am having my hood and trunk painted and I am nervous that it wont match and look shitty!!

 

it can come out anywhere from horrible to perfect. Where on the scale it lands depends on the quality of your shop. whether they have a hard time or not is not your problem, thats for the shop to figure out

 

From what I was told, no two batches come out exactly the same, even from factory, even if it is only a microscopic difference, it's still a difference.

CBP is a harder color to notice it won't match. There are a few rock chips on mine and I used touch up paint, hard to tell without really looking.

But as paperboy mentioned, a good quality shop will do their very best to color match. And this is one of those cases where "you get what you pay for" certainly applies. Don't cheap out on a paint job!

 

I dont have a CBP but a WDP which ive read is also hard to match. The shop ive used for years always asked me to give them my gas door so they know it matches as close as possible. They've never let me down.

Maybe you can give them your gas door so they can match it.

If they are a good paint shop they will come super close where it will be barely noticeable, ever so slightly different.

 

this is very true. however, our eyes can only see so much, and we cant see microscopic differences. So as long as its close enough where you cannot see it from your naked eye it should be good enough. Basically what I'm saying is, if you have to take a flood light and look at a specific angle just to see a slight shade difference, then that might be asking for too much.

 

Thanks for the input guys! A buddy of mine I went to High school with is doing the paint job. He works at a commercial body shop by day and does sidework in the evenings at his own shop. I have faith in him. If it doesnt look good or I dont like it, he will more than likely re paint it. And he did take off my gas door as a reference. I just hope he wont tell me he had or is having trouble matching!!

OP you will have to dig around and find a reputable shop in your area or surrounding area. Also, you can post in your regional section any good paint/body shops they recommend.

 

Ive had both bumpers repainted. Ones perfect and one isnt. Its hit or miss.

 

Its all in the blend baby.my CBP had a new rear bumper and qtr panel earlier this year. There's 3 different variants of carbon bronze pearl.. We picked the darker of the variants adjusted pressure at the gun properly and it was a perfect match. I had a reputable body shop do all the work. They knew how picky I was. I wanted it to be as good as factory.and it was.. Go to a good body shop. Where they'll back their work 100%. If its not right they re do it till it is. Remember. You get what you pay for. Don't cheap out

 

dont worry too much if you see 1 shade off for the bumpers. Plastic parts usually comes out just marginally different than metal parts. As long as its not too noticeable. Some TL's came from factory with 2-3 shades off for the bumpers

Well I have my car back after having the hood and trunk painted. I gotta say it looks amazing!!! Match is perfect and I could not be more pleased. Obviously I was a mervous wreck while waiting as I wasn't sure of the outcome. Well I am glad it is over!! Thanks again for the input everyone!!

 

Had my front end repainted for stone damage. It looks fine. The match is as close as possible.
