Post Cassette Deck

Article in today's NY Times that mentions only 4% of all 2007 model cars were sold with a factory installed cassette deck.

How many TL's were sold in TL? Of that 4%, I would guess the TL was a considerable percentage.

i like having my casette deck, its very handy if u have an ipod or even if u want to listen to a tape, if they didn't have a casette deck in the TL i wonder what they would put there for aesthetic purposes. i think it looks good

i store assorted food products in mine. cheese, granola bars, fudge. really just anything that will fit. i wanna store some funyuns in there but i am afraid they may make a mess when the lid tries to close.

Peak production of the TLs was about 80K/year.
FWIW, the Lexus GS and ES also have cassette players.

I'm guessing the luxury auto manufacturers are aiming at the older clientel base, thus the tape deck is still in style

I don't even notice that I have a tape deck.. it makes absolutely no difference to me.

I would much rather have a small door (and associated controls) that would open to reveal a multi-card / USB device reader to facilitate other data play etc..

However popular/common a cassette player was in cars last year or 2008, I fully predict they will near completely vanish in the next few years. They will become an option rather than the norm.... Docking stations and/or numerous digital audio/video input choices/sources will be the thing of the future.
