cars you considered other than a TL
What other cars did you consider buying when you bought your TL, and why did you choose a TL over your other choices?
I was considering:
2006 Cadillac STS
2006 Infiniti G35 awd sedan
2006 Acura TSX
I got my TL because the Caddies were absolute junk. The TL is much more of a car than a G35 in my opinion, and I wanted a little bigger than the TSX so thats why I got the TL

IS350 - Nice car, but the interior is way too small. Rear seat isn't useable if you are more than 8 years old. Basically a couple with 4 doors, and the front seats ain't what I'd call roomy either.
G35x - Almost bought it, but ended up getting a better deal on the TL. Acura dealer is also closer to home for me. Infiniti is almost an hour away, pain in the ass for warranty work.

Acura TSX - too small
CTS - would have been my choice but i just couldnt see myself driving a manual 6MT caddy. to me cadillacs are like old rich persons ride. and im not either of them.
M3 - out of my price and didn't feel like spending a grip on repairs
Maxima =
2G CL - had the 1G but got sick of a 2 door. great cars though. only in manual transmissions.
G35 - nice car but didnt think it was slick enough.
To me getting the 3G TL was like getting that hot ass girl at the club that you've been eyeing on the whole time and you thought you never get a chance to have her but then when you did you just could not stop haha that was a corny analogy but you get the drift.

I looked at a TSX, RL, 330i, G35x, and finally the TL. I was trading in my 01 CL-S at the time.
-The TSX was a tad small and I didn't want a 4-cylinder.
-The RL was gorgeous but a little out of my budget. It was pretty sluggish compared to the TL.
-330i was nice but still a little small. It felt cheap compared to the other cars.
-G35x was quick and I loved the planted feel of the AWD, but the interior was bland. My dad has a 05 G35x and he loves it. Don't get me wrong, I do too, but it's just not my TL, lets put it that way.
The Verdict: TL FTMFW

1. Lexus IS250- Too small
2. BMW 3 Series- Didn't want to spend the money, and expensive to run. This was the closest second to the TL and what I will probably get next when I don't drive as much.
3. Audi A4- Not reliable, expensive to fix
4. Honda Accord- No fun, and that's what I was upgrading from
5. Nissan Altima- Crappy build quality
6. Infiniti G35- Great car. Bad gas mileage
7. Infiniti G37- Didn't drive nice, bad gas mileage
8. VW Jetta TDI- Just didn't want a Jetta, HAHAHA
9. Acura TSX- Uninspiring looks and too small
Cars I will look at next time (if Acura doesn't shape up the new TL)
1. BMW 3 or 5
2. Mercedes C or E
3. Audi A6

Drifting
I was looking at many different cars, considering how this would be my first car, we were very open to any type of car.
Jeep Grand Cherokee-chick's car
Infiniti QX4-all of the 8 I looked at were individual nigerians with bs stories
Volvo S40-too small, not a great drive IMO
Infiniti G35-cheap inside
Acura TSX-didn't mind the size of car, just the size of the engine
What I want as my next car: BMW M3
What I will realistically get: BMW 335i

Three Wheelin'
Well seems like all the good ones are covered but here is my list in reverse order of what I would have purchased:
1. Lightly used Lexus GS350 my wife and I test drove one and I really didn't like it. My dad has an LS460 which I love but I hated the GS.
2. Infiniti g35 sedan (new styling) my brother inlaw has the s version and gets horrid mileage so a no go for the price.
3. Lexus IS250, great car, not enough backseat.
4. Acura tsx 2009 4banger 6spd w/navi. Drove one around town, loved it. Drove it on the highway and I didn't like it. Socks felt too soft for the spring rate it had. It was bouncy and louder than the other candidates.
5. BMW 328i, more room than the IS 250 but I didn't feel a connection.
6. BMW 335i sedan, sports pack performace pack and navi. I was about to pull the trigger on this one. But at the last second my wife talked some sense into me. I drove
my cousins 335i coupe fully loaded with the chip for about 1 week and oooooh man what an amazing car! But after I went to Acura, my typeS was 12k cheaper out the door.
About 3 months prior I was at Acura and drove a base TL and honestly I didn't feel a connection. I'm really glad I got a chance to drive the typeS.
Do I feel like my car is better than a well equiped 335i, heck no, but the price difference 12K in my case, makes up for it.
Now I'm looking at replacing my wife's accord coupe with a 'family' car and I honestly don't know what to buy... The MDX is nice but a bit pricey, I just hope the new TSX wagon will come out with the V6 as an option.
The 4g TL wasn't out yet when I got my car, though I saw some pix of it, and didn't feel it was worth waiting for.
I really like my car and I can't thing of a car under 40k I'd rather own... Well maybe a WDP version of my car

PhilB81- not to hyjack a thread... but did you say TSX WAGON?!?!?!?! That sounds freaking awesome. I really wished they made a 3G TL wagon, because that is what I would be driving right now if they did.
Can't wait to see one of the Acura Wagons... and if it has a V6, I might have to add that to my list of potentials for my next purchase....

My choices:
1. 08TL-S MT
2. 10TL SH-AWD MT powertrain in an Audi A4 shell... for TL price of course
3. Mother-of-all-downgrades to anything reliable until some manufacturer designs something inspiring with decent features and a sane price tag.

My list was short. I pretty much knew I was getting the TL, but I did consider the TSX. Probably would've gotten the 1G TSX if a V6 engine was offered.

My TL loves summer

The other vehicles I considered getting were the infinity fx35, lexus gs350, and audi a6.... I decided to go with the TL because my good friend has one and was very happy with it. I drove it and really liked the sportiness/luxury combo. Also my first car was a honda(accord 98) and I loved that car, that played a factor in my decision.

TL=True Love
09 TSX- slower than 08 TL, no LED break lights, cheap looking middle brake light(even the camry has a nicer looking middle brake light), cheap lookin stock rims
IS350-ugly tail lights (reminds me of a hundai sonata pattern), even the facelifted LED brake lights look worse.
BMW 3 series coupe-i could only afford the non navi ones and im not spending a lot of money for a lot of nothing and I would FEEL SO DUMB to be driving with a garmin or tom tom attached to my window, too ghetto and stupid.
09 RL-LOVE the facelift from the 08 model, juss too $$$ when my TL has almost every feature. maybe the RL juss says"Put your seat belt on" Intead of a "BEEEP BEEEEP BEEEEEP!"lol
the 09 TSX was the closest to second choice. i find myself driving behind them whenever I see them in the streets and i try to reassure myself that my TL looks better. i mean look at the TSX tail lights, they are two RED circles- how boring is that? and the 08 TSX had 4 Red Circles. and i have to bring it up again, that middle break light in the rear window is SOOOOO cheap, that is like a honda light bulb cuz my 01 accord had that same break light. and i kno u can switch out rims but those rims are juss like caps to me, they look juss as bad as the 09 RDX rims. So that was a major deal breaker
Currently i have an 08 TL and its aiight, i wish i joined the acurazine forum earlier so i could read about the WDP mismatch bumper issue cuz i have it and ITS SOOOOOO annoying. and the TL bumper is a big piece so its realli hard to not notice it.

oh and if i keep stressing LED brake lights its cuz i think its a luxury feature. LED brake lights is like HID head lights cuz there are regular head lights that look like bug light yellow IMO. I LAUGH SO HARD when i see a BMW or BENZ with non HID head lights cuz i kno its not standard like the TL hehe
i knew i wanted a car with LED tail lights when i first saw them on the G35 coupe- i think that was the first car to introduce LED brake lights.
this would be my remedy to that UGLY middle brake light issue i complain about. U get a spoiler with LED lights :-)
but how do u remedy that 09 RDX lookin tail light??? if u figure that out I will def. trade in my TL hehe
and if i trade in my TL for a tsx i will DIFINATELY miss those front and rear side markers- a VERY unique feature exclusively for the TL 3rd gen TL models.

At first I really wanted the G35 but after a couple of test drives I was not really impressed. The TL was pretty much love at first site!

I looked at the
IS350: Midget Interior
Audi A4: gorgeous but falls apart at 60K
G35: hated the interior and coupe was to small
MB300: Slow and Questionable MB reliability
Bmw 3 series: ugly interior
The type s gives you the best all around package and best bang for your buck especially with a CPO.

I had a price range of around $20,000 in mind. So when o was looking at cars it was a progression of how much can I get with this money.
In this order-
-2005 mustang gt (good power but not many options. Not even a sunroof. )
-Nissan 350z (sexy looking but almost no trunk room and terrible blind spots)
-Infiniti G35 coupe (felt too tight, seats side bolsters were too close together to fit me)
-BMW 3-series (lots of options but no power. Less than 200 hp. FAIL)
-Saab turbo (expensive insurance, plain interior, not that good looking)
-TL (long list of options, Brembos standard with 6mt, good power)
After all those other cars, once I test drove the TL and felt the hp I was sold.

Back in 04-05 I was considering the v6 altima. I was thinking custom leather, body kit, custom navi. I made a spreadsheet comparison of all the pros & cons and convinced myself the TL was worth the extra 10g's.
I still think a manual 3.5 altima could take a stock 6sp TL.

I was looking at a bmw 530i 2005, acura tsx, audi a4, bmw x5 2006, lexus is350
bmw 530i 2005 - peace of shit . my brother has a 2007 and all he has is problems
lexus is350- overpriced and wayway to small
acura tsx 2007- way to small
audi a4- brother in law (service manager) works for them in NJ and he said you must be nuts toeven go close to that car
bmw x5 2006 3.0 liter- again maintenance was high on it and not the most reliable car
then when i drove the TL that was it. love my car

The list was very short due to requirements of: 4/5 door, manual, FWD or AWD, 250+HP
Legacy GT or SpecB (06-08)
WRX (2010+)
TSX (07+), but was very unlikely due to the 4 banger.
If it did not have factory Navi, another requirement was double-DIN radio - not integrated with HVAC controls like many newer cars nowadays. This led to consideration of the WRX.
BMW/Audi - Never considered used and probably never will - the only way I could ever have one is through a lease.
Lexus - If I wanted a boat, I'd buy a boat. IS250 did not meet requirements.

I was looking at a g35 Coupe 6mt, I was about to buy it, literally had a check in hand for down payment when i said to the dealer hey let me drive it one more time just to be 100% ok?
Soon as i turn the car on the CEL goes on... It might have been nothing but it was enough to turn me away from that particulay g35, then i got a great deal on my 6mt TL and i grabbed it. Glad i did too because its probably a lot more practical than the g35 would have been

In 2004-2005, I seriously tested:
TSX
RX-8
G35 sedan
330i and IS300 production had stopped with the 335i and IS350 pending, so those vehicles were never in consideration. I didn't think about the A4/A6 then, mostly because they were comparatively slow for their price ranges.
Then the wife requested an auto transmission-- since the TSX and RX-8 are dogs with autos, I went to stronger V6s with autos: G35 and TL. The G35 manual had a terrible clutch, so the G35 auto was better, but the TL seemed to be a more refined and buttoned-down car overall.
My lease was up earlier this year and my wife decided she didn't need me to get an auto trans, so I drove the Volvo C30, A4 and G37 (manuals only) as well as the 335i (stick & auto), Jag XF, GS350 and 2008 TL-S (auto only).
Checked out the CTS, 5-series and A5, but they didn't appeal to me enough to test (darn, the CTS and A5 are big!), as well as the SLK and Cayman (too impractical).
I bought my TL off lease instead to save some money-- and still love it compared to the newer competition!

06 Lexus is300: outdated, small and not as luxurious as competitors
08 V6 awd Rav4: Didnt choose it because of small size SUV
06-07 TSX: 4 banger is a turn off.
05-06 G35: didnt like the orange gauge and the look is too mature for me
So i went with my 06 acura tl. I think it is the best bang for ur buck
