in? still popular you mean?

some people say CF hoods don't belong on a TL, i personally think they look great on certain colors. in fact, i think a CF hood would look great on just about any car out there on the road. if i had an extra $800 laying around i'd buy one.

I don't see many around here (RI) but I would get one for the weight savings if only they weren't so expensive.

people don't have them because it take some extensive work to the rest of the car to make them look good. And even then it's hard to pull it off. kids have them because they think it's cool, and usually don't look good. People here have better taste in cars

And I don't see many CF hoods on any car around here where I live. I see some STIs and s2000 but those actually look good. Like a white STI with a CF hood and trunk looks pretty nice.

I think a WDP with CF hood, black roof, and CF/black trunk could work.

Sadly, CF is still "in"
Don't think it'll ever go away unless the racing scene goes away.

I live in Southern CA and on LA craigslist there are a bunch of these CF hood and lip wings for sale like 250 a piece. they might do shipping im not sure if you guys interested then just check them out. i personally would like one once my car is all supped up the right way. or else i would just keep it clean.

Depends on the car, but on the TL it's like a pound or two lighter. Not much of an improvement from what others have said.

Yeah me either! This guy over on the tsx forum added 2010 m3 hood vents to his tsx...looks real clean and functional IMO. If only I had the stones to cut holes in my hood!

Check out the 'ultimate cooling mod.' I did this and it works. When idling you can actually see the heat waves emanating from the top of the hood!

if the front fenders didnt take up so much space on the top portions next to where the hood goes i would think it would look better... currently it just makes me think of one big racing stripe down the middle

Here in Madison all i really see are highschool kids with riced out cars that have them... and i would be lucky to see a real carbon fiber one and not a hood painted black or fiberglass with a sheet over it. "IN" Depends on the mods and your age group. haha
I like carbon fiber as a weight savings but i would paint it to match the color of the car. I hate the F&F style ones with Evo style vents all over them!

I seen one on a few Lexus IS...didn't look bad. I don't think it would look bad on a TL if the rest of the car looked clean.

The thread below discusses the weight savings. Ironically, the linked thread below has the identical name as this thread.

Some risk there, though, if it's the VIS Racing hood. Cutting into a $900 part like that is bit , imo.

I couldnt see the video can you please repost.

Carbon fiber is and will continue to be the material of choice for making your car light and stronger. The problem with CF is that it is so damn expensive!! Trust me I know first hand. I deal with thermoplastic uni-directional CF and I work with material that is priced from 15$/lb all the way up to 170$/lb for high performance aerospace grade.

Back to the main point of this thread....personally I'd take the weight savings any day but I am not a fan of the weave cf as you can make even lighter if you use uni-directional cf. Plus the sun damages them. I'd paint mine if I had one. I think its also kinda ugly if not done right!

That NBP above looks SICK!! I've always liked the look of the CF, but it has to be legit...actually might get the VIS hood for my Anthracite 06 pretty soon, still debating it. Gonna get a good deal Plus my stock hood has quite a few rock chips in it, and I don't feel like re-painting the whole car... if you like, but I think it'll look sick on AM.

If it wasn't so expensive, I'd do it on my NBP. Nice and subtle. Other colors- not so much.
