Type S all the way

You don't own a Mercedes (or BMW, or Audi). You merely lease it from the service department.

I'd say go with a C350, if you can get a good deal (and aren't looking for a manual transmission).
A C300 is much slower than a TL-S.

c350 and way out of the price range and i know c300 is slower than type s but it look balling but the type s look more aggressive and faster.

TL with def be better over all as far as being out of service, drivability, and reliability, however i gotta give it to you the c300 def gives the tl a run for its money in the looks dept, how far apart is the price?

2008 is the last year of the 3rd generation TL-S & the first year of the 4th generation C-350.

The 4G MB 350 was designed to put the quality issues behind it & I would give it a shot over a soon to be obsolete 3G TL-S.

This man is correct about the latest gen c class. It is suppose to address the short comings of the previous model.

But do expect to pay more to keep it on the road than the Acura. Also the MB dealerships around here are sort of hard to deal. I have a client who has a CLS 550 that has grooves in his rear rotors and all their service dept says is that it is normal and a characteristic of the car.

Personally I don't see how there can be equal distribution of force if there are grooves in the rotors. The grooves certainly can't be the same on both sides resulting in unequal distribution of force but maybe that it is so slight that its amounts to nothing? Anyways excuse my tangent.

I don't like to be the one to purchase the first year of a new generation. I don't want to take the chance on any teething problems that weren't addressed due to time or price constraints. But hey, he's 18 and being given a car; he probably also doesn't have to worry about getting the car to and from the shop - mom and dad can do that for him.

The TL-S is soon-to-be obsolete? I'd like to hear why.

i think he meant that the 3G will become obsolete in the sense that the 4G is coming out, not as the TL-S will be forever. the 4G TL-S is rumored not to be out until ~2012

OP - i say go test drive both cars and see which one you like better. mostly everyone here will say the tl-s

If you live in USA, I would never give a german car company my money. I will never buy a german car. Mercedes isnt that good. Acura is better in every way. Labor costs are through the roof. And finding someone other than the stealership that can produce good labor on a german car, and not costing and arm and a leg, will be hard.

The 08 TL S would be a much better option. The only car I think is close to the TL is the Lexus IS350 and BMW 5 Series. thats it.

I don't understand why someone would ask this question here and not expect to get biased answers...

Anyways, TL-S>C300. You're only paying for the logo in the benz.

If youre looking for performance and reliability, the TL-S is clearly the best choice.
However, if money isn't an object, I would personally go with the C300 Sport. I love the new C.
