Really? Is that the rev limiter for automatic TLs? I'm pretty sure my 6MT TL can easily exceed 5,500 RPMs.

My car did the same thing and was due to it being low on oil. Mine used about 2qrts during 5k interval. Now I check it more often and zero issues since.

Is it safe to assume your car has an automatic transmission?

Being an auto trans it could be a number of things. Not sure if it will throw a wrench light for a trans issue but it is a good idea to have the car checked for any codes, from my experience you can have active codes but no light showing.

I believe if in park it won’t allow it to exceed 5500K or 5K!? Not positive, but I remember reading something about it a long time ago. I could be wrong.

I believe I read somewhere the governor when the transmission is in neutral or park is more like 3,200 RPMs. Don't remember where I read that.

2008 TL 5500 RPM Issue

I was wondering if this ever got resolved. I recently purchased a 2008 TL with auto transmission, 3.2 motor. While driving, anytime you try to accelerate quickly...the engine won't go past 5500 rpms. It just bucks and won't even shift.

2008 TL 5500 RPM Issue

My 2008 was also doing this. At 5500 rpms (while driving) the car would go into "secondary safe mode" -a term told to me by other Acura people. There were no codes. Later, I discovered the connection to the oil pressure switch (single wire with black rubber boot) was not connected. After connecting and starting the car, it threw a code: P2647. So, I removed the oil filter/VVT assembly (vtec) and the solenoid tested bad. Car runs great now! Obviously the VVT/VTEC was not kicking in and was causing the 'safe mode' issue.

I was stuck on resolving this problem for a month or more because I believed the the comment re a rev limiter. Now, I understand there is no such thing for this car while in motion. So, that was not helpful. And reposting it when I was looking for answers was also not helpful.
