Car Got Broken Into (Pics Included)

Two Fridays ago (March 7th), some idiot broke into our condo's underground garage and broke into eight cars. Unfortunately, my WDP was one if the eight. Instead of breaking the windows, the idiot decided that it was more fun and more challenging to go through the moonroof. So we had broken moonroofs. The guy also scratched the areas around the moonroof. The armrest also was damaged as he stepped in while there are glasses all over the place! Such an idiot. The car is in the shop now to be repaired. The guy also stole my beloved GPS so I am praying that the insurance company can give me another one. I miss my car so much. It's been in the shop since last Monday. I should get it back sometime this week. Poor car. I don't drive it much (2006 with only 3800 km), but it's gone through a broken bumper (some idiot bumped into me but he was good in confessing to the insurance company that it was 100% his fault), and now being broken into for even just sitting there. I've decided to pamper it so asked the shop to give it a detaling job.

What kind of an idiot decides to bust in through a moonroof?

Is insurance atleast paying for the repair, if not for the lost nav?

The insurance is going to pay for the repairs as it falls under the comprehensive category, and my premiums won't go up. I don'tk now if they'll pay for the nav though. Still in the process of convincing them that I did have it and it was permanently mounted. It's not so much about the money, but more like someone broke into our properties and we have to go through the hassle of getting it repaired. Such a low life this kind of people.

So wait, you had like an aftermarket GPS mounted in the car where everyone can see it?!? Man I hope not, because that's like an advertisement bro.

I hope the detail isn't being done by the body shop as they are great at polishing them up to get out the door but not to great at having them look good past the first wash ... they use a rotary and glazes and fill the car with visable holograms once the glazes wash off.

I didn't leave it in the car. I usually brought it home with me. The G35 parked beside me also go broken into. I feel bad for that car because the owner is away for vacation so that G35 is left there all broken and no one to take care of it.

I am going to look into a more extreme kind of alarm. Maybe one that will electricute the person if they touch the car without turning off the alarm.

The condo has cameras so they are trying to ID the guy. I've asked the manager to give me the idiot's contacts so I can personally send him my greetings.

The shop is only going to detail the interior. Not the exterior. I thought they would do a better job because you have to remove the seats to clean out the glasses under the seats and also the rails. Such a pain in the ass!

Sorry to hear about the damage dude. I hope the jagbag cut himself at least on the broken glass, if not tripped on a shard and stabbed himself in the groin. I hear DEI makes some decent alarms. Hope you find the jerkwad.

I may be completely wrong on this issue, but I dont believe we have glass break sensors. Only if the door is opened in an unauthorized manner, i.e. break glass, pop the lock, will the alarm sound. (no key was inserted or alarm not deactivated by using keyless entry). That may explain why jagdofus went trhu the moon roof.

Breaking the window itself will not trigger the alarm. Unlocking the door from the inside and opening it - will. I don't know of any "factory" alarms that have glass break and/or shock sensors. Too many complaints from either false activation or nuisance etc..

Sucks to hear that. I am sure your Caretaker will have vid clips of the person. Ask him to also check who had enter the garage during that specific day and time to narrow down the suspect. Most time, it is an inside job from rentals in your condo lending their key fobs to their beloved friend (Thieve). If so, they can track down who was the owner that was using the key fob that particular night I am assuming.

Must have found it an easier ingress/egress than the side window... Then again, maybe due to all the other TL break-ins he knew side windows were becoming of short supply. Out of pure consideration he broke the sunroof to aid in a quick repair...

Seriously - hope all is fixed to the OPs liking - and the perpetrator is apprehended and sentenced to death of course...

Be happy that it's just the moonroof and a gps rather than the entire car missing, I see it happen in my area at least once a week to someone I know.

Maybe I should install a 360 hiden camera in the car that videos the event when motions are detected. Maybe can even send me signals when something is wrong.

i was just telling ed99 that someone keyed 100 cars at a mall parking lot couple weeks ago. So many losers out there nowadays.

Thansk guys for all the encouragements. I too hope they find the guy soon and have his hands cut off. I'll let him live but please do cut off his hands.

so is stealing the car...

the best alarm system would be to get airbags for your suspension, and have some sort of sensors that see if there are any feet under the car. Alarm goes off when perp tries to break in, WHOOOSH bags drop, car drops.....right on the foot.

that or just get anything that makes sound or light in your car working at full blast. Works better with an aftermarket system

GM's theft deterrent systems have factory shock sensors. There is also a sensitivity knob under the steering column to adjust the shock sensor sensitivity. Even my 98' Pontiac Grand Prix had a shock sensor as part of the factory alarm...

When I got the TL, I was ticked that you could not program the "alarm" to *not* disarm with the key. My Pontiac allows this, so I assumed they all did.

It's pretty easy to add a shock sensor to your factory alarm tho... I even added sensors to my clear-corners on my G35 after they got stolen. (I also upgraded the horns on my cars to be 139db air horns )

In college one of my room-mate's Jeep got vandalized... Not only did they "cut open the plastic window", they took a whiz on his dashboard.....

Those horns you guys are talking about.I instinctively lock the doors even though someone opts to stay in my car (quick trip to the shops),my sister opened the doors from inside the car once and set the alarm off,you could actually harm people you know with those.

you dont have any pics of the inside of your car to prove you had navi in it? or can you go to the dealer and get them to prove it was in there or was it aftermarket?
