Can you chirp gears on manual mode on 2007 acura tl type s 5AT?

How would you change gears on paddle shifters in a race and would you take the VSA off or leave it on?

Yes, you can chirp the tires, esp. with VSA off. Hell, you can do it in auto mode as well; just give it some throttle. Be prepared for the torque steer, though.

In a race, I think 1 user said leave it in auto for 1 & 2nd, then switch to SS mode for 3rd and up. From a dig, yes, turn VSA off as well.

Edit* Sorry, I saw chirp & immediately thought tires. Haven't heard the term, "chirp the gears" before.

If you're talking about doing a track day then the manual mode using paddle shifters will allow you better control when downshifting during braking and then accelerating out of corners.

btw, this car was in no way built to "chirp". i usually make an ugly/scared face anytime my tires do that. driving fast, one thing...putting unnecessary strain and abuse on the drive train, just unnecessary! i was expecting to see an age of like 17 near your name, kinda surprised this is coming from someone of your age. but its your car so i guess have fun

On days it hits 85-90 I thrash it into 2nd, and I can feel the entire chassis buck and the bushings give a little. F****r bites and does not want to let go. If its say below 60, watch out, I'll roast all of first and second.

Don't rice around in your car on the public streets please. My insurance is high enough. Save it for the track which you wouldn't want any wheel hop when you're running the 1/4 mile.

All you're doing is putting uneccessary strain on the tranny and axles and ripping up tires slowly. If you wanna be fast and furious then get a beater for that. How old are you again??? C'mon you own a Acura tl not a civic or teg, it's a entry level luxury sport sedan and I use the sport side of it lightly for the simply fact the car wasn't designed to chirp the tires or for that matter race around the city streets.

may I suggest track days- high performance driving schools held at roadrace tracks everywhere
Learn on a safer place- with 35 foot wide roads they expect you to use every inch of!
Learn how to get moving fast and stopping-slowing to approch turns- spot the apex- nail the apex and accellerate off the corner to the next braking point

It will blow your mind no matter how many years driving already- 4 or 40, its a blast to do and way cheaper than the cheapest ticket
most run $200-300 for a full day using your car, and a pro driver as your coach

First off the OP simply asked a question that was just proven by Stillhere153 (AL) courtesy of thewanderer316..Its a YES

I dont see why we always have to go through this battle of HOW YOU NEED TO DRIVE YOUR CAR speeches. NEWS FLASH your 4 door rentry level luxury Honda sedan that you bought wasnt even aimed at your age bracket when it was released. So why is it that we need to act a certain way as we drive it???

Point of the matter is since you cant drive 5 mins w/o seeing 10 of these on the road they do not hold value and they are coming into the hands of much younger drivers.

So the OP is asking about chirping tires sooo what go on YT or Streetfire and comment on ppl that are doing other stupid shit like STOPPING TRAFFIC TO STREET RACE

HAPA DC5- Wheel hop and chirping gears street or track is a totally different thing and the reason why YOUR insurance might be high is because of where you live... I mean for cryin out loud u guys have a Santa Clara County Regional Auto Theft Task Force (R.A.T.T.F) lolz

We have members from 16-60 on this forum with all types of driving habits and not anyone will make them change how they drive unless THEY get caught. This is an ENTHUSIAST site

Edit: btw as long as you properly maintain any honda/acura you can redline and beat the piss out of it and it will be fine

You do whyne... You cool now? Want to hug it out?

We are all aware of the target demographic of the vehicle. People on the boards tend to attract a younger owners then your "average" buyer.

God forbid our fellow members are encouraging someone to act responsibly.... When you've known people who have died as a result of street racing or reckless driving you tend to advocate not doing so.

When a person posts a questions asking if you can chirp second gear doesn't exactly sound like he's making a grocery run, well maybe a really fast one.

Since it was mentioned about the target demographic you're absolutely right the tl was targeted for a much older crowd not the fast and furious crowd which is one of the reasons we're saying it's a waste to drive around and chirp to each red light. If you wanna be a red light racer fine go ahead that's your choice. But what is being said here is why do you wanna even bother doing it cause it sounds cool?!?!

Not trying to argue but if you gonna come on here and ask "dude I wanna chirp the tires how do I do it in my tl" you know a majority of the members are gonna give you harsh to negative feedback.

I only left my feedback to try to understand why a "chirp", which is a loss of grip/whp, is so desired? Most of us who truly are performance guided will do anything we can to avoid wheel hop, we switch suspension, sways, motor mounts, tires, to provide a tight grip on the road without any chirping. You chirp (in 2-3rd gears), you lose.

The axles on the TL are not great, enough of a wheel hop and a pot hole, and you are done. Another presumption I have which I'm sure is 99% accurate is that the OP's whole idea to achieve a chirp is to look cool. So by all means do it, just don't start another thread when your arms are bent.

Happy TLing! Be safe.

Thank you for an actual intellegent response. I'm tired of how most everyone else is quick to jump down your throat to how their premiums are going up because of people like me or whoever and a danger on the road. Fact of the matter is I went from an 08 STi to an 04 TL NOT for performance...I drove like a douchebag on public roads when I was 17 and had an RSX-S. I average 20mpg around the city, and drive like an old man most of the time now, but what am I thinking about I am 22 with a TL and anwsered the OP's question which by default means I'm like Lewis Hamilton on public roads...you know because all these sweet members in hole in the wall towns across the country pointing their finger at the monitor and making ridiculous accusations can see me via the live camera feed thats on my car....

Says the guy with the Stage 2 B5 S4 who never EVER rips on it on the street.... Ok Guy, I forgot you know me so well. Just for the record, I have autocrossed and dragged my TL. I that happened on the track because It was an extremely cold day at the end of last season, but thanks for your concern. Next time you should pull your head out of your ass and not make assumptions based on age. Just sayin'.

Nope it doesn't mean you're Lewis Hamilton. I'm not making any assumptions what so ever, what I am saying and actually emphasizing is to NOT be a schmuck on public roads.

More crashes = higher premiums. I think we can all agree on it.

Sure you can chirp your second gear, wowee.

So are you selling your TL to get that NSX?

Look, I'm not gonna muddy up this thread anymore. You guys have a point the OP asked a question, it was answered. Done deal.

No, I'm selling the S2000 to get an NSX...that is unless I get to test drive an Elise first.

i think no one should be judged on this topic because only you can decide the way you want to drive and how you want to drive your car and i think everyone here can agree that we all get excited sometimes and get some adrenaline to drive fast to see what our car is made of no matter how old you are

Because you'll end up getting someone killed possibly?! I was 17 once, got my RSX up to 160 on the dead end of a highway around here. I thought I was badass, 5 years later and I'm shaking my head and face palming regretting all the retarded shit I did back then. My friends are I talk about this from time to time, how we can't actually believe we use to think street racing from rolls on the highway was cool

This thread has gone some crazy directions. Yes you can absolutely chirp (at least) 2nd gear. Same opinion as what the other member said. I leave vsa on so the tires don't go up in smoke in first gear. I leave the trans in auto during launch but as soon as it hits 2nd I go to sport mode that way I can take second up in the rpm's. I bought my type s over the base because I expected the car to be more of a performance TL and I still stand behind that. As far as drag racing goes I don't really do that anymore, however there is nothing like pulling out of a rest area and getting up to highway speed as fast as the car can get to 65mph.

You do have a point when it comes down to that but I wasn't thinking about racing or anything like that I was only curious if the car was able to do it and maybe try it myself in an empty parking lot or something

if you try to "see what the car can do" in an empty parking lot, you'll run out of parking lot long before the car's doing what it can do.

Just go to a race weekend at a road course. They usually have track tours over the lunch hour. $50 or so and you can drive the track, usually flat out. That should get the speed bug out of your system for awhile

My completely stock 04 TL 5AT will chirp even with moderate throttle because my tires are nearly bald! Am I cool or what?!
