Can I vent please?

I had to replace my windshield when I purchased my 06 TL in April of 2010.

Dash cracked last week during the heat wave, I actually heard it snap while I was driving.

Acura of Manhattan denied any assistance and so did Acura corp.

FUCK YOU!!! A car like this shouldn't have this problem, Ill NEVER recommend an Acura to no one ever again. I saw the thread with the silicone fix ill have to do that. I like the car but this is fucking ridiculous, cant even sell it at a good price anymore unless i replace it. $2100+tax FUCK YOU AGAIN!

EDIT: The reason they denied was cause I replaced the windshield.

coolstorybro.

when you really think about it, $35k new isnt that much money. I'm very glad a car of this caliber, doesnt have that many problems.

Plus, you didnt even buy the car new....

I'll take a dash crack over serious mechanical flaws any day. sucks that it happened and it is very annoying, but you have an incredible machine all things considered. I understand your frustration, but it's really not as bad as it seems.

"OH MY GOD I BOUGHT A 5 YEAR OLD CAR FOR LESS THAN HALF IT'S ORIGINAL PRICE AND SOMETHING WENT WRONG WITH IT AND THE DEALER WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AT THE DROP OF A HAT?" HOW DARE THEY!!!!

Wow dude, it's just an Acura..... Get over it. And they didn't deny you the dash replacement because you replaced the windshield, that was just the convenient excuse they got to use because there is no reason for them just hand you a brand new dash board for no real reason.

Seriously way to over react. Windshields crack, get over it. I have 2 huge ones and replacing it is 300$, not a big deal. Also a dash cracking, OMG HOW CAN WE LIVE DRIVING THESE PIECE OF SHIT CARS. At least mechanically it's a sound car with no real problems. Get the cash from a junk yard and stop whining. Not really a reason NEVER to recomment acura to anyone. It's just an Acura, a used car you got, not a brand new $100 000+ car

Regarding replacing your windshield, sorry to hear that you had to, but it happens all the time regardless of the make, model, and year. So I can't sympathize with you on this point.

When it comes to the dashboard I can understand your frustration, but I hope you didn't try and get assistance speaking with the same tone as in your current post. I would still recommend Acura and Honda as great cars. Shoot I’ve been working on them for 16 years.

Sounds like people on this thread have a lot of money to throw away. Sure it’s an Acura and not an exotic car, however, I work hard for my money, as I assume you all do too, if not, lucky you. I expect to have a product that is reliable and built using quality materials. How can someone justify the fact that the dash on my 95 Integra lasted, but my 2008 TL can’t cut it?

You cant get much better quality in the price range of a TL. The car is built very solid. The dashboard issue does suck, but its a good feeling to know every time I turn my key the engine will fire. I have owned two honda vehicles and that is all I will ever buy. Never had one mechanical issue other than common wear parts. It is pretty common for a honda engine to out live the body of the car.

its the fact that most car manufactures have problems with cracked dashes, not just acura.

I can kind of relate to the OP..

my drivers side automatic belt went kaput in my 93 integra (18 years old, yes i know). The auto mechanism was stuck in the down position and the Acura dealer I went to didnt help and quoted me 800 bucks. With that mechanism broken/non-op I was driving around in a lap belt. It was a sensor problem and not a mechanical motor problem since I could manually wind it up so I could drive safely, but when I plug the control module back in it would return to the down position.

Lifetime Warranty on Seat Belts apparently literally means just the belt and buckle.

I left a scathing review on Yelp and the VP of Customer Relations of said dealer sent me an apologetic message that I appreciated. He basically said we cant do jack cause it's not part of the warranty (despite in the manual there's no explicit definition on which parts of the seat belt system are/aren't covered).

Take it up with Acura corporate client relations. I got rid of the 'teg and told the new guy how it could be done if he really wanted to go through the hassle.

I could care less about the windshield, I said it first to say why Acura denied any assistance cause I replaced the windshield. Like I said I love the car and still make payments for it so being a family man I can't just drop 2300 dollars on a dash when i can use it for a lil weekend getaway with my family. So it was just venting but since I'm not super popular here the assholes came out :-p I love ya too though

If you are a family man with kids, then you'll get used to things getting trashed or you will die of stress at a very young age.

One way around this is to never buy a car out of the factory warranty and sell it before it expires.

Have you ever owned a domestic? I tried for years to be a loyal American, but I have a 04 Pilot that is still going strong. Sure it has some minor problems and has 110,000 miles, but I have never kept a domestic longer than 30,000 miles. Something major would go bad by then.

I hear a lot of complains with cracked dashes though I live in one of the HOTTEST states in America, have owned TWO 3G TL's and NEVER had a problem with mine. Though, I typically have my windows tinted with 20% all the way around (except windshield), and sometimes a sun visor in the windshield because it gets like 100+ here with heat index's of 120 and 70-100% humidity, :'(.

Dash cracks seem to only happen on cars that never get parked inside a garage. Yes I know thats not really a reason for a 2006 dash to come apart but still any car thats subjected to the outside elements every single day is going to show it over time whether its interior parts, paint, trim etc etc. Almost 66K on my TL and the dash looks the same as the day it rolled off the lot. Garage parked anytime the car is at home and every single night and I also like to use a sunshade for the windshield during the summer season while my car is parked outside at work.

To the OP I understand that you just wanted to vent. Aint nothing wrong with venting, tho some took it completely different. Sorry about your dash cracking. I've read that a lot. I feel sorry for a lot of the midwestern and northern states with this heatwave. Here we have a lot of humidity so 95° heat + moisture sucks major balls. I've been in dry heat and it's actually more tolerable... go figure! But add moisture to it and BAM muggy stickiness suffocates you. lol

IDK how strict NY is with tint but i think 35% is about right. Try gettin the windows tinted. I've never had a dash crack on me and its very hot here during the summer. I've seen 3-5 year old cars where the sun has destroyed the clear coat on the paint causing cracking and fading. It could be the materials that were used to make the dash, but it can happen to anyone. If you can park in the garage (if you have one) get a reflective visor that people put in their windshields and condition the interior best you can and throw a nice coat of wax and enjoy your ride.

EDIT: Oh yeah OP I dont have a garage an my cars have ALWAYS been parked outside (we have trees) and dark interior gets really hot. But remember tint and a sun visor in the windshield goes A LONG way.

no hes right about the dash....its a year 2006 his location says NY. there is no reason a 2006 dash should fucken crack it doesnt even get as hot as arizona or texas. 10 year old honda accords still have perfect dashes. The 3g tl designers did screw up when they designed the dashes. Other than the dash i dont think anyone can complain about anything else on this car. Every other problem is just rare incident...the dash is notorious. I keep my car garage parked all the time because im so worried about the dash...i do have a an 05 and i thought majority of dash problems were for the 04 models. real surprised to hear an 06 issue

It's just a cosmetic issue... it's not like there are major components of the car cracking and falling apart. I have come to accept that sooner or later my dash will crack.

Edit: Here's an example of an unacceptable failure: Brother's girlfriend's Mini Cooper-S had the timing belt snap the other day at just 80k miles. Trashed the motor. I'll take a snapping dashboard any day over that!

Another good point is, use a UV resistant cleaner on your interior... It will not stop it from happening but the chances of it helping are a lot higher than just wiping off the dust... Also sun shades help Sorry to hear it happened though I can understand your frustration, id be upset too! Then again it may be cheaper to just get the dash wrapped in fabric! Screw it do some Carbon Fiber 3M over lay!

I feel for you OP and I think your rant is justified. Acura did mess up here and it's easy for us non-cracked dash guys to say "It's no big deal". Throw so caulk in there and see what it looks like. I just wish we knew why some crack and some don't.

Did the silicone fix I saw in a thread here came out great, not as mad anymore I got the car to keep it. maybe the previous owner didn't take care of the dash like I have been doing since I got it I use 303 when I saw all the good reviews. I pay $190 a month to keep this car in a garage, so I know its not my fault thats why I was so upset.

Ill take pics later on I want to see how that silicone holds up.

Let me one up you on that. My cousin's cooper-s had its timing belt tensioner crack at 15K miles. Caused the engine to drop all its oil on the way to the dealership. Thankfully no valves were damaged.

I had a hand-me-down Audi a number of years ago. At 80K the thermostat failed, and before that it was constantly in the shop for various stuff.

My 85K TL has never had a major problem. Only time I took it in was for a slipping serpentine belt. Love honda. I do use a sun visor in the windshield to protect the dash. Still looks new.

Dadon-sorry to hear about your issues. Look, I know it's 250 degrees out, but these are cosmetic issues on a 4 year old car.

A little TLC goes a long way. Please realize that your TL will run and run and run. These cosmetic issues will probably be your biggest worries.

So the car is in NY now, but were was it the 4 years before the op bought it?
I mean seriously shit happens. I would be on the look out for a used dash on craigslist and eBay and the even the forums. Sorry to hear this had to happen. Would insurance be any help by chance? G/L...
