Can this day get any worse?

My day started off with devastating news this morning (personal). As I was leaving my house for class I thought "No way this day can get worse....". I was clearly wrong. On my way to class a lady came out of a plaza and I felt like she was going to come into my lane so I veered to the right and kind of curbed my wheel.

Damage was very minimal. It was NOT noticeable at all. I was very happy that I did not curb my rim and I went to dunkin donuts which is right down the street. I don't even get anything at dunkin, if I am early for class I just pull in there, review notes, etc. I parked by the curb which is unusual for me.

I got a phone call and I was deep in conversation about the "devastating news"....lets just say the phone call made things worse. Anyway, after getting off the phone I started my car and LIKE A MORON turned right and pressed on the accelerator. I heard the worse sound I have ever heard! My poor wheel grinding against the curb. I panicked because I knew many people were outside witnessing my stupidity so I just kept going. I immediately high tailed out of the dunkin donuts and pulled into the next plaza. When I saw the damage I died.

The damage. I have never curbed any rim before and am always careful. I have no idea what to do. It looks SO UGLY. I was going to refinish the rims and paint them gloss black in the summer. Its all around the rim pretty much. Idk.

So many things I could have done different. I never park by the curb in that dunkin donuts, why did I do it today? I should have just kept going and not stopped. Oh well.

that is more than repairable. No more than $125 to do that from a pro. Good luck, and sorry to hear.

Sorry to hear that, but the wheel isn't that bad. Just think of it as a way to have your wheels custom powder coated to what ever color you'd like! I'd say no more than $400 to get all 4 wheels powder coated.

It will be fine. If you were planning on painting them anyway then who cares

You just need to take some extra time sanding I that area to make sure it looks like the rest of the wheel. You also might have to fill in some of the scratches.

After <$50 in supplies and 6-8hrs work it should be fine...

Sorry to hear about how your day has been so far. Hope things get better for you soon. Don't take it too hard, I did the same thing a few months back, and trust me when I say, "I always think twice when pulling out of a parking space when I'm near a curb."

When I did things like this I used to get mad etc, until my GF told me: "You're mad? Upset? You or your kids are not in a hospital with cancer or other illness, be happy, be grateful"
This has stuck with me ever since.

Wise words.

And the wheels can be repaired relatively easily.

Damn I feel your pain OP, I was coming out of a car show last summer and I forgot I was close to the curb side when turning out. Needless to say I broke my side skirts and scratched the heck out of them. In the end, it can and was repaired to new.
Just make sure you are ok first.

Ouch man. If it makes you feel better, all four of my wheels are curbed. I only did one...same way that you did. I was backing into a space and didn't see how close the curb was. Good god what a terrible sound it makes.

Like others said, if it bothers you enough, its certainly repairable.

Deep breaths, man...I think this is why whenever you get into an argument with your chick etc...always just go into separate rooms...having your head elsewhere or being emotional when driving is bad news. I'm sorry to hear this but it's fixable and hopefully the other news is something you'll be able to bounce back from easily.

Sometimes life isn't the most fun...so you have to try and keep your spirits up.

Sorry to hear about your devastating news whatever that may be and to see your wheel get all curbed up. Remember, that wheel has nothing on the news you received.....

You could get touch up paint for Anthracite Metallic as a temporary fix if the curbed wheel bothers you that much. Keep your head up, friend.

My condolences on your personal bad news, I sincerely hope that all will work out for the best.

As for your wheel you are not alone, many of us know too well the sound of concrete against alloy wheels.

I have heard the sound more than once and am now on my third set of wheels, but it's only money.

like many have said, deal with your personal issues first. for the most part they are more prevalent, but at the end of the day try not to stress on them too much. I know this sounds difficult, and usually is, but the human mind is an amazing creation and has the power to get you through anything if you put some effort into it.

as far as the wheel, fuck it. that can be fixed, and in time will.

basically what I'm trying to say is, life won't always go how you want, that's a given. but, don't stress on materialistic things and keep your head up man!

I hate to be a dick, but you have got to be kidding me here. A little curb rash and you "died"? I know this is a car forum, but there are so many worse things in life than some scratches on a stock type-s wheel. People are LOSING THEIR LIFE in Syria right now at the hands of a tyrannical government, for crying out loud.

I'm sorry for your personal problems -- deal with those first and either pony up a small sum to get them powder-coated or, and I would recommend this personally, take pride in your possessions but don't let them control your life.

^ Very wise words.

OP you rim doesn't look bad at all, seems like the tire too most of the scrapage. Hope your personal situation gets better and I wish you the best of luck. The wheel CAN be repaired like everyone mentioned.

Its all relative. I'm sure the OP didn't literally mean he was going to die over it. Probably was just pissed for a bit.

Orange, sorry to hear about this. I had your day today, yesterday. One bad thing seems to escalate everything else-I know how it goes.

Tomorrow will be a better day, my friend.

shoulda woulda coulda...it happens. hope all the personal stuff works out...it will only get better from here (i hope). this is more important than your car right now. as for the wheel...it's a relatively easy cheap fix. at least no one was hurt. make tomorrow a better day and keep your head up. hang in there.
