Cabin Air Filter installation
Cabin Air Filter installation
What up AZine? I just changed my oil, engine and cabin filter today. I went back to some old threads and it mentioned that the cabin filter actually has arrows pointing a certain way to as to the correct placement of the filter for the cabin. I just put it in without really paying attention.
What I would like to know is if it would really matter if I dont have it facing the right direction? I'd rather not have to disassemble the glove box and redo the procedure.

Black Mold and other fungal spores being kept out of the cabin
OR
Black Mold and other fungal spores being blown into the cabin.
Either way, I'm sure you'll be fine.

The filter I bought didn't even have arrows lol. So I just looked at each side. The one side was slightly darker, so I put that side down. Not sure if it's correct but it doesn't bother me too much. My cabin air smells cleaner though!
Don't worry about it, I'm sure it's a lot better than the one you took out.

Yes, I believe one side of my filter was darker, so I figured it was the charcoal. I put that side towards where the outside air was comming in (forgot if it was up or down).
I thought the reason for the arrow, was because when placed in the correct orientation, it allowed you to place the pleat over the plastic edge of the box, so that no air can get around the filter?
I tried to find the side that had more charcoal to place facing "down", but they looked pretty similar in amount. As long as nothing is blowing into the cabin you should be okay. An air filter is basically a membrane for air to pass through while catching debris.
If you do the cut-out mod, it'll be a snap to change the cabin filter.

It was just the oem filter. Its been bothering me that I might have placed the filter the wrong way so I havent been using ac/heater for the past couple of days. I'll get to changing it tomorrow if im not too hungover lol
keeping it the wrong way won't harm you! The air filter is designed to flow a certain way to ensure that the most dust/debris is filtered out. If you do install it backwards, it will take a bit more effort for the system to push air through the filter. Take 20 minutes out of your day and fix it! Changing it is pretty easy as it, fixing it should be a breeze!
