Buying TL tomorrow... suggestions on extras?

I just sold my 94 Cobra and am most likely going to buy an NBP TL AT w/NAVI (or maybe Anthracite or maybe WDP - not yet sure) tomorrow. I'm going to shoot for $33K - $33.5K out the door. No sales tax in Oregon. Is this reasonable?

I keep reading about people getting the dealer to throw in "extras". What type of "extras" are we talking about? I want to get the absolute best deal I can.

Thanks in advance.

After reaching a figure acceptable to me I said I'd buy if they threw in a mask, mudguards, a service manual, and a hat. They agreed so quickly I think I should have bargained more over the price.

Unhappy

That's what I'm afraid of. I always THINK I'm getting a great deal until I get home and think about it

The above-mentioned items, as well as wheel locks and touch up paint (I made a separate trip to the dealer and paid $5 for the paint because I forgot to include it in the deal with the TL). Some dealers already have the mudguards on. You might also consider dealer accessories-- nicer license plate frames, key fobs, etc. Good luck.

So I bought my TL yesterday. WDP TL AT w/NAVI. I can tell you that NOTHING is "thrown in." When I finished negotiating, I had a car. Everything else was extra.

If you want to purchase add ons like warranty, trunk tray, mud flaps, etc, then research the web to see what you can purchase them for there. This will give you a great negotiating tool.

Write down the part, the price, and the website you found it. Ask the salesperson about matching the prices, and let them take it to the finance manager. They will probably say no. Then when you get to the finance manager, mention it again, and let them know that you are more than willing to purchase it at that price from them, but you don't want them to not make any money, so if they can't, then its OK. If they say no, then drop it. We were printing contracts when the finance manager finally said, "fine, I'll put the parts in at that price, just don't tell any of your friends."

If for whatever reason they decide they can't do it, then you need to decide if you can wait. Whatever you do, DON'T BE EMOTIONAL. Emotion is the wedge between you and your money.

Good luck!

Steve

I didn't get much either - basically they installed the moon roof visor for free. I found that I could get a good deal on the splash guards on eBay, and they were easy to install (and I am not a car guy, so for most others on this board, it would be mindless).

Well... I am now the proud owner of a NBP TL w/NAVI. I ended up getting it for $33,500 out the door with fees, license, etc... it was the quickest buying experience I've ever had (less than 2 hours before I drove off).

Just spent 45 minutes in the garage playing with the gizmos. Lots to learn

Congrat's on the new TL . I got a couple of things thrown in with the car but for the balance of the accessories I'm looking for the dealer was waaaaaaaay overpriced IMHO. When I get around to buying them the internet will be my friend. Lots of deals on REAL Honda/Acura parts . FWIW, I know how ya feel about learning the toys - in the first week I had the car I must've burnt a tank of gas just idling and playin with stuff.

After working in the car business, i can tell you guys that any EXTRAS they toss in for you comes out of the salesperson expense.

Normally what happens is when your in the finance office signing papers the sales man would go to the parts dept. buy some "extras" at a discounted price then put in the car or hand it to you with the keys. There is nothing free in this world.

Most people think they make a good portion out of the car but they only make a few hundred each. so what they need to make is Volume

I would say to negotiate harder on the extended waranty. The the complete 7/100,000 warranty and they will work on that price alot more than the price of the vehicle. You can make back at least some money on that, plus you get the long warranty.... Just nice to have, and if you sell the car before the warranty runs out you can get a refund on the balance. I just did it and it was nice...

E-bay is your friend . My only advice over that would be to search these forums as many have posted their experiences - both good and bad - with vendors. Have fun "modding"!
