That's not my "heavy" post. You would know it if it were.
Ditto my friend. (as evidenced by some of my R&P posts )

LIek I said the things get to heated when Max or G35 vs. TL post come up........ Iagree with Xpditor Nissan messed the Max up in 04. The 02/03 Max (02 1st year they started moving it upscale) Nissan had the car just right sporty good looks, nice feel with a nice quality stylish interior fit for a car that ran from 27-31 K, it also had plenty of luxury in the GLE and top line SE. The 04 the interior is out of place for a car in that price range and it just looks like a boat. My wife and I looked at all 3 ; G35,Max and TL and chose the G35 for its better, feel and driving nature. Plus the 05's interior is much better than the 03/04 G35's, the TL was 2nd choice and Max 3rd. Most people buy what they want and as much as some hate it these cars are all in the same price range and in the "real world" they will be compared as they have for years in the past and it will be those that have a preference for each.

It looked sharp, and the price is reasonable, but lo and behold, what was on the front driver's seat....BUT PRINTS.

There was a distinguishable imprint of two buns, with a raised crease where the crack rests. Can it be that other leather than the TL's is susceptible to butt prints? Granted this is not a luxury brand, but this was a demo with less than 1000 miles on it.

For the record, I have an ’05 TL with 5000 miles and no butt prints.

Not really same price.

When I was shopping, I could have gotten a Maxima for $27,000. That was at least $ 6,000 cheaper than a TL. I could have gotten a 350Z for under $29,000. They are not in the same price range unless the catagory is $25-35,000. That would be a wide range. Historically, the Honda Accord has been the car cross-shopped with Maxima and, recently, the Altima. Honda vs. Nissan vs. Toyota, and then Acura vs. Lexus vs. Infinity. I know, I know about RWD, V8s, and big price tickets on the latter two. But the three brands represent their premier offerings from each main Japanese manufacturer.

Most people here paid between $34-35,000 for a Navi TL and about $32-33,000 without Navi. Most Californians paid full list and then some. (see: "Dealer Fees" discussion elsewhere.)

I agree.

For years, the Maxima has always been compared to the V6 Accord. Even when the Altima first came out with a V6 engine as an option, the Maxima was still compared to the Accord V6 and Camry V6.
It wasn't until the 6th gen Maxima came out that they stopped comparing it to the Accord V6 and Camry V6. Nissan had to change the Maxima to make room for the V6 Altima. The Maxima is just not what it used to be, "4DSC". The 6th gen Maxima is anything but sporty. It's more comparable to the Avalon.

On the backend, the 5.5G Maxima also drew some comparisons (despite the availability of the Infiniti I35) to the 3.2TL as well. A perusual of Acurazine's forums (Acura-TL.com circa 2002) alone bares that out.

It is more comparable to the Avalon....another upscale sedan which MSRPs for about $37k fully loaded. I wonder what Honda's Maxima/Avalon counterpart could conceivably be.......

Areed. It's an upscale of the "lower" brand not a luxury/ premium brand.

Just what does a luxury car have (in your view) that the TL does not have?

Well said!

Kinda makes a Maxima with buttprints pretty insignificant.

Well said..... I still have the pubs that talk about the 02 Max ands how they started moving it more upscale in 02 offering things not avail on Cam or Accord or Altima in 02 and in some cases still not. Like memory seating,HID's,Nav,heated steering wheel, trip computer etc, etc. Yes the Maxima is alot closer to the I35 than the Cam is to the ES330 and Accord is to the TL and always has been, thats what makes it a tougher decision between those 2 than the other 2 and their sister car. In history the Max has always offered more than Cam or Accord and in the 80's the Max,Cressida and Legend offered way features than any other sedans from Japan until late 89 when Lexus and Infiniti came about. The Maximas main competitor for years was the Cressida and later the Vigor/Diamante which was compared to the Maxima on many occasion. Accord and Cams are for people that want a comfy cruiser and donot care about as much sport. The Max,TL,G35 and others attract more of an enthusiast crowd, that is why Accord/Cam sell about 5 times or more a year vs any of the other cars formentioned here. Plus they have a much lower base price of about 18k or so starting out,
