Busted Rim 24 hours after picking up new TL

I picked my new 04 TL up from the dealer on monday night. The next day I was driving on the highway and I hit a hard object (piece of round solid metal) with my front right tire. It was on a conjested highway and wasn't much room between cars so by the time I saw it in the road it was to late. My dealer said the warantee won't cover it b/c its obvious I hit a large object b/c it cracked the rim. Tire is ok, but he said its got a 3/4 gash in it and they recomend a new tire. I tried to say the rim was defective, but they weren't hearing it. Is this something I should fight with acura about or just take the loss ($388 new rim and tire). Any suggestions??

You know better, it was your fault. Buy another rim and save the battle for another time.

Definately not worth a fight, you have no ground to stand on. I would check e-bay or wheel resellers rather than the dealer. Are cracked wheels repairable? That may be an option

While I was at my dealer dropping off, I found this pamphlet about alloy wheel repair specialists. They come to you, I think. I never used them or know of anyone who has but their website is.................www.mobilewheelrepair.com

Please let us know how it turns out!

Trying to blame Acura and steal a new rim and tire from them because you weren't keeping a safe distance and ran over something? What's next, you gonna total your car and expect them to buy you another one?

You can get used wheels with tires off Ebay. You caused the problem, you pay to fix it.

I got a wheel and tire road hazard warranty since a manufacturer would never cover something like this. Insurance might (if you have the coverage).

Seems like one of the forms I signed or initialed at purchase was declining road hazard insurance for the tires/wheels.

you can try to sue the city for the damage, but its really not worth it because lawyer fees would be more than the 388. plus you might not even win the case.

Thought road hazard protection only applied to the tires, not the wheels

You can only try to sue the city if it was a pothole. If the city was responsible for ever piece of cr@p lying on our roads, they'd be bankrupt.

Don't try to blame it on the dealer. It makes it harder to get legit problems worked when you rant about things that are clearly and admittedly your fault. I'm sure you can find another rim relateively cheap.

Had a friend that did it once before...no lawyer costs and they paid w/ no fight.

Have a friend who is a big wig at the Beverly Hills PD...he told me about a policy that the city has to pay out any claims relating to falls on sidewalks automatically without any need for paperwork or hearings. Lesson- go "fall" in B.H and get your wheel paid for.

Try to get the dealer to sell you a wheel/tire at cost. They shouldn't mind that.

I actually took this warranty due to the ease of rim damage on the TL. What happened to this fella is exactly what this warranty covers - as long as your on a paved street... Covers tires, rims, balance, and alignments if required...

All you have to do is ask yourself, Is this MY fault or Acura's fault? Did Acura put that thing in the road for you to hit?

Save your complaints for legitimate ones so others can reslove their real complaints

I assume you have comprehensive coverage on your insurance. If your deductible is low enough (mine isn't) it would cover this. It's not much different than a rock breaking the windshield, really. Ins. Comopanies don't usually raise your rates for a comprehensive claim.

It doesn't matter that the wheels are easy to damage. I suppose Acura could have used 15" narrow wheels, with 70 series tires much wider than the wheels. But I think there would be some complaints about that.

Can't think of a better reason to upgrade to 18" rims and better tires!

Yeah, it was my falut for hitting something on the road. I realized that didn't try to squeeze a new rim out of them. But as it turns out when I picked the car up yesterday, I only had to pay for the new tire and balancing. They gave me a new rim as a one time good will gesture. Talk about customer satisfaction.

I recently had the same type of situation occur, where I hit a pothole on the right side of the car ...

It took some haggling, but the insurance policy that I bought with the care did cover the damage.

In my case, I think the rainstorm was at fault for "hiding" that big pothole!!!
