bumper painting
to make a long story short: i got rear-ended. the damage isn't that great but i need to replace the bumper. i was thinking about getting a new OEM bumper from acuraparts247 and getting it painted to anthracite, and repalcing it myself. I'm aware that i might have to replace the parts behind the bumper cover too. it would still cost less.
Anyway, i was wondering if the paint would be off if i didn't let a body shop do "paint blending" to make it match better... and any other thoughts you guys have.

Funny.
I got rear ended today in my 5 day old TL. Just got back from the body shop.
They listed off the parts required and indicated it would be $880.00.
He said it was not hard, just alot of painting and drying of the Bumper. Brackets, shims and an absorber if damaged.
Good Luck

Is everyone here having the paint blended into the adjacent body panels, or are they taking the bumper off the car to paint it? I'm guessing for the $1500 estimate they are blending. Let us know how it turns out!
I doubt everyone is having his bumper repainted, but I had mine removed and painted on my 2002 Type-S. Blending into the fenders is asking for more problems than it is worth on these cars. A good shop can easily match well to a car in good condition - if the paint is badly oxidized, all bets are off. Today, they not only can get the flake right, but actually "age" the paint as well. I had to have the bumper on my S2000 painted, and it was $600, and looks absolutely undetectable. I paid for it myself, since I could pick the shop I wanted and the insurer would only pay half that. Rather than end up with the inevitable result of a half-azz job, I took the path of least resistance, bucked it up, and got satisfaction. The shop has to add flex agent to the paint, hich can throw off an inexperienced technician. Look for a shop with experience and get references. i asked around, found a Honda paint expert (light metallics), and that was the road to success.
The Deep Green Pearl look like it will be a tricky match - it has a "mystic" (special Mustang paint of a years back) aspect to it, as its color shows purplish green at some angles and in different light intensity. It is very classy, and the green window tint makes the car look very integrated. Kind of Jaguar-like, and it it does not look like every other TL out there (Grey or Silver). Over time, I think the DGP will be a sleeper. Or, I could be stuck with a "turkey color" that has a downside cost calculation. I like it, and that is what counts in the end, of course.
