I'll be taking delivery of my 6MT early next month; however, one would think that high performance brakes and especially the pads would wear faster than normal brake pads. So, I would say yes they probably will wear faster than normal brake pads.

With that said, I know the G35ers have complained over in their forums about the Brembo brakes wearing quite fast (some in less than 10K miles).

I think this is the trade-off though for great stopping power - the pads will wear quicker.

I haven't noticed any unusual wear at 5k. I live in a rural area so brakes tend to last quite a bit.

Re: Re: Brembo Brakes

I ever heard about the wasteful and costly Brembo for G, so Infiniti kind of reduce the price for their first replacement, right?

Anyone knows? Thank You.

Any of you 6MT owner experience occational squealing of the brakes, especially at low speed? I took it to the dealer about this, but they could find any problem. Or is this normal?

A large number of G35 owners were having to replace their pads AND rotors every 10-15k miles. Infiniti was saying it was normal wear and refused to pay for the replacements under warranty. A few months ago, however, they changed course and began warranting the brakes for 3yrs/36,000 miles on every G35 NOT equipped with Brembos. So the 6MT G35 coupe owners are out of luck...

I sure hope the TL 6MT doesn't have the same brake issue...

I lurked over in the G35 forums for awhile when I was considering my new purchase and that's what a lot of them were told they needed to do from Infiniti service departments which was costing them around $500-600 to be completed by the dealer.

Do the brembo brakes make your wheels black with dust like BMW brakes? How about the stock brakes?

To some degree, every set of brakes will have some dust which will coat the wheels. As a rule of thumb, the higher the performance brake pads, the more dust you will see.

I can understand getting less wear out of the pads but 15k seems unrealistic. On my auto CL I got 50k out of the originals and 70+ out of the replacements.

And why would you need to replace the rotors at all? You can't cut them?

I'm not saying that I know personally from having a G35 what they were going through...I was just lurking and looking at problems and that was one of them - extremely fast wear on the Brembo brakes. Then when taking it into a dealer after 10K miles, the dealers were informing them a complete brake job needed to be performed: pads and rotors. Didn't seem too logical to me either but that along with the interior scared me away a bit from the G.

I've changed my front and rear pads on my 2001 Saab and not changed rotors and my car still brakes well - like the first day I drove it off the lot.

I don't think having Brembo calipers and rotors will affect pad life in a vacuum. It has more to do with the pad and rotor hardness and composition. I understand that the brake systems on the G35C, 350Z, Evo & STi have exhibited very short pad life.

It's a lot like tires; if you want great grip, you have to give up some mileage.

My wife's 99 Accord had such weak brakes, we ended up putting EBC pads and rotors on. She runs through pads about every 15K miles, but for her, it's worth it. The stock pad had half their material after 30K miles.

I can't wait to find out about the pad life on my 6MT TL, I drop-off my deposit on Saturday!

Cheers,

Don

I agree (this was the main reason I didn't get a G35 early this year before I knew about the TL) and so did several G35 owners. I think that's why Infiniti changed their stance on the issue. Supposedly, they are using a different brake pad now and are potentially going to change the rotor design. Hopefully the new pads/rotors won't negatively affect the G35's amazing braking ability...

I have to admit that if in fact I have to replace brakes (pads and/or rotors) every 15k miles this might not be the right car for me.

In the past I've gotten 80k+ miles on on a set of pads on my 5MT AWD Turbo Talon. Some of those miles were spent at the autocross and I certainly didn't baby it the rest of the time.

So you're telling me that I can only expect <20% of the brake life of my Talon? These brakes are 5x better than regular pads? Seems hard for me to believe.

Part of the reason I've owned Acuras in the past was because of their generally low cost of ownership compared to the German competition. Brakes are only a couple hundred bucks but pad & rotors for this thing will cost a fortune!

All the talk of replacing pads and rotors is for the G35, not the TL. People are not experiencing abnormal wear on the TL, to my knowledge. However, these Brembos will wear faster than stock brakes on any other car.

Everyone need to remember that a lot will have to do with the type of driving you do. Highway/City/Stop and Go, etc... Do you ease your brakes on or do you tend to have to peel yourself off the windshield at every stop sign and traffic light? Do you enter on ramps and off ramps above posted speeds? You get the idea.

One brake issue I just realized. The 5AT cars don't have the Brembo Brakes in front, just the 6MT ones. The 5AT seem to have the same front and rear.

Yup, Brembo brakes only comes with 6MT. If you want one on 5AT, you'll have to get the A-Spec.

Yea, but the A-spec is a bit pricy (IMO) for what you get.

Yeah, I agree. But, you'll get that cool steering wheel:p However, I'm not too crazy about the body kits.

Anyone out there driven A-spec and regular 6MT? How does suspension feel compare to 6MT?

Wait for a second.

A-Spec for 5AT doesn't come with Brembo, which is very unique setup for 6MT.

A-Spec for 5AT is only having high performance pads for 4 brakes. You will see the red-edge pads installed in each brakes. The brakes are still the original ones... silver ones and smaller than Brembo...

Please check it again.

Brembo brakes produce more dust than the 5AT.
My rear brake caliper is turning green (is it normal?)
7680 miles - mostly highway.

The Midas shop told me that the ceramic pads would produce less dust and withstand higher temperatures... but I don't know if they have it for this new TL yet.

& rotors can be machined (re-surfaced) if they have imperfections or wear patterns.
