'07 TL-S, 5AT (i.e. Brembo Fronts).


Looking for source information on Molykote M-77, I ran across this tidbit:

So here are the question(s):

- If I use an Aftermarket Pad Set, is the Molykote M-77 OK, or is the new spec Brembo Grease preferred?

- Where can the Brembo Grease be obtained?

- Last, it appears that the OE Brembo pads are not shimmed. Is that correct?


I assume that if I got OE pads, the correct grease would be included.

Also, I am aware of aftermarket products (CRC Brake Quiet, etc) but am not asking about those; thanks just the same.

No knowlegde of the M-77 on aftermarket pads or sourcing for the newer spec Brembo Grease?

I have to do my brakes next weekend, I was wondering this as well. I assumed the Acura dealer would have some.

If your DIYing it, when you buy the OEM pads both sets come with a little tube of the Brembo lube, but there is more than enough in 1 tube for both sides, I'm willing to bet the service guys at your local dealer have quite the stockpile of extras kicking around, simply asking one may get you what you need.

I figured if you bought OE Pads, you'd get the new pad grease.

Thing is I am not sure I am going with OEM pads and have some Molykote M-77 left over from a previous 2G pad replacement.

So I am trying to figure out if the Brembo grease is recommmended regardless of pad or if the Moly M-77 will be good with aftermarket pads on the Brembo Caliper. The more I think about it, the more I think Molykote M-77 will be fine.

Also, trying to confirm that pads for the Brembo Caliper are shimless.

a friend of mine in acura parts mentioned that the pad set for 07-08 type-s with part number 45022-SEP-A60 (with shims) now replaces the original part number 45022-SEP-A52 for 04-06 brembo pad set (shimless)

well at least thats the case in Canada, and they come with a few packs grease

I wonder if this is a response to the noise issues in previous versions (i.e. like the TSB in the original post)?

Oddly enough the '07 TL-S parts drawing does not show the shims (hence my question), but DOES have the same part number shown above (with shims).

I have aftermarket pads and rotors and they didn't come with any grease. Hopefully the dealer will have some laying around.

This is what made me wonder if the '07 had shims or not. I know at least one other MT ('06 I think, maybe '05) whose Brembo pads did NOT have shims. Even though the '07 drawing is "wrong" the part number (on the '07 TL-S parts list) seems right.

Ok when I replaced my 05's pads in late summer 06 with OE, there was shims,




Also notice the tubes of brembo grease by my foot that came with the pads, you get 2 of those tubes per caliper, the dealer techs probably have tons of them kicking around because 1 is more than enough. I think I have 2 left in my tool box.

Excellent. Thanks. So the "new spec" pads do come with shims and "new" grease, apparently for any MY TL w/Brembos.

Any opinion on whether aftermarket pads will benefit from the shims of new caliper grease?

If so, I might go OE this time just to get those materials.

I am beginning to wonder if the misc complaints of after market pad noise are related to the lack of either these new OE items.

I went to the dealer yesterday and they didn't have any extra grease laying around. Now I am on a hunt for some grease. Any reason I can't use something like this?

Usually at the local Auto Parts Store, they have single use packets of Caliper Grease. I think CRC is one of the common ones. Comes in larger sizes as well. The one I saw was also a Moly-Sulfide compound, very similar to the Molykote M-77.

I'm probably just being a granny, but I've heard so much crap about noisy pads and squealing brakes, I want to stay as close to Mfg's recs as possible.
