It is in the manual. Why would you need a poll on this topic?

I think the car can be broken into at any time. You've got to keep the windows rolled up and valuables out of sight. There's nothing magical about a car with over 1,000 miles - thieves will still want to steal it if they can.

Keep it under 60mph at the lowest rpms, dont use cruise control. Do this for about 750 to 1000. If you break the car in correctly you will see better gas mileage and a little more hp in the future.

Thanks for ruining my day... I thought punks and thieves knew that until a new car reached 20K miles it could not be broken in...to.....

Didn't Boltjames say that the few cars "coming off the truck" with BSM's have a less chance of being broke-in due to their pure hidiousness....??

Keep it under 200 rpms for as long as you can stand it. 1000 miles is good, more is better. I know from experience this makes a difference. My non-broken in car gave me TERRIBLE gas mileage until I sold it. The others, carefully broken in gave me MORE than the rate EPA mileage. My ES300 gave me 30.5 mpg to Las Vegas and back at 80 mph with the A/C on!

There are SO MANY moving parts in a new car, then need time to "get to know each other" before being stressed. It is cheap insurance.

AND - don't leave anything in sight in the car - ever!

I was only able to stand it for so long. After all, eventually I had to start the engine.

Ooops, I drove way over 70 on highway on my way from the dealership and definitely over 2000rpm. My dealer told me to not use cruise control for the first 500m and change the gears at least every 30 minutes. He mentioned nothing about a speed limit. God, under 2000rmp for 1000 miles? Is this humanly possible? I think I might develop a psychological condition if I do this ...

there should be a "No Idea" with the poll, it would suit me.

i'd give anyone props if they actually stayed under 3500RPM during the so called break in period. heck i tried but damn the car is fast! too many temptations during my break in period that had me go over 85MPH and 5500 RPM. it's just too hard. what's funny is i do less of this now that it's broken in lol

Acugirl - Actually, 70 mph is right around 2200 rpm I think, but for the sake of the drive train, try to keep it to 60-65. It will be worth it!

Enjoy your new baby! I still look for excuses to go driving!

BTW - I took a quick drive up to Santa Barbara saturday 100 mi or so each way. Total traffic, stop and go on the way up, but 80+ on the way back, and STILL averaged 28 mpg. The break-in was worth it!
