Break in period???

Guys,

I just bought my car (06 TL AT with nav). What is the break in period for the car and what exactly does that mean? Can I still drive 70mph on the freeway? I am averaging 14 miles a gallon in the city. Will this improve?

Just drive it and don't worry about it. I would avoid any long idling times or long WOT blasts for 500 miles. An occasional WOT blast is actually good for it if you don't wind it to the moon.

I have about 1000 miles on mine and my in town mileage is up to 21 now.

WOT would probably mean wide open throttle.

You should contact the dealer because the car should have come with an owners manual.

I believe break in period is first 600 miles. Shift at 3-4k if possible on every gear and when you are on the freeway, do not stay at a constant speed. Vary your speed from +/- 5 mph. Do not WOT (Wide Open Throttle) or floor it. Hope this helps.

You must be Kennedy's twin brother...

Give the guy a break. He's new and merely trying to do what's best for his new car. Give him more than a few posts to know his way around our forum.

Quach - You might want to peruse the 3Gen Garage Sticky at the top of the thread listings. It's quite informative and most everything you would want to know is easily found.
