Maybe this might now be true... - you can still fill your car with Sunoco 94 in Ohio.

Shell so far has been offering the best price in my area.

Mobil probably the Highest with BP sitting mostly in the middle.

Gas buddy I find seems to lack a few of the stations around here.

I usually try to fill up with 76, but I found that gas buddy doesn't even include the weird 76 station in the mountains.

I live smack in the middle of Orange County.

Yorba Linda, Brea, around that area.

Costco's Gas isnt very good when compared to Shell.
Both are 93 Octane but i see a 2-3MPG difference when i use Shell. There is no point as you dont actually save any money due to the nature of the TL's engine and just have to fill up more often.

Prior to using Wawa gas, I used Mobil and Shell. I used Shell 90% of the time. I noticed that Shell here in my are was 89, 91, 93. Wawa is 87, 89, 91. I was so use to getting the mid grade stuff I naturally assumed they were both the same. I was so use to going to Shell and saying mid grade when filling my Vette up.

Since I've owned my Tl, about 6 weeks now, it's been getting 89. I feel like an idiot now! I guess why that would explain why the performance just isnt there like it should be.

So what grades of gas do your local stations sell?

I never really thought about this since I thought all 91 octane gas was the same, but I filled up at Mobil earlier this week because they have the only touch-free carwash near me, and I got about 17 mpg. Then yesterday I filled up at Chevron and doing the same type of driving I got 20 mpg. I am going to try Shell next and see if I get better or worse than Chevron.

I wonder why this thread is still open but the GA Gas thread got shut down. Discriminate much. But I am sure they will either come up with some excuse as to why they are different and due to that difference this one was allowed to stay. Or just say nothing at all.

The big factor amongst the major comapanies that is going to affect mileage is the pecent of Ethanol it contains. It's like a cheap filler that burns really fast, but burns clean. Most stations have a sticker on the pump that advertises the amount of ethanol in thier fuel. Shell, I believe advertises "May contain up to 10% Ethanol. BP, on the other hand, says thiers "Contains Less than 10% Ethanol". To me that sounds like; Shell = 10% and BP = 9.99%, take your pick. Others either dont advertise it or don't use it.

So i am undecided on what to use. Shell is "Premium", but Sunoco has 94 and it seems like my car runs better on it. Plus i have two right near my house, while the Shell is like 11 miles away and takes me 20min to get home from it. So what to do?!?!?!

You keep using what is right near your house. If you go to the one that is 11miles away you will spend a gallon getting there and back.

ok, so it is actually on the way, but it requires city driving rather than freeway driving to get to it. plus my buddy lives right near it, so i can in theory work it in, so its not too big an issue. but there is no way for me to get there from my house, or from there to my house using the freeway, because there are no exits there coming from my house, and no entrances back on the freeway going from the station to my house. so its not really a distance, but more of a time thang. but i will be willing to take the extra time if it helps the ride, i am just not sure if it does. i think i may switch back to the Sunoco soon and see how the car does. it really seemed to like the 94 though, i just thought Sunoco wasnt as good.

In Quebec... Shell stations don't come up as frequent as say.. Esso or Ultramar or Petro Canada.
For that reason I go to Petro Canada... with 94 octane and suposedly advertised more 'tactrol' for suposedly 'cleaner' gas

Chevron gas is my personal choice ...I actually work in the corporate office in Houston. It's a great company and so much effort and passion goes it to developing the best gas on the market.

Do you get discounts on gas? And if so does it apply to family members also?

I been using Chevron since 99 based on the advice the Audi dealership gave me. I noticed a difference in mileage and start ups right away. I tried Shell V Power for 6 months and the Audi seemed to be more peppy but went back to Chevron because of the mpg.

What companies does Chevron produce gas for because there are no specific Chevron stations in CT, at least none that I am aware of.

I only use 91 Chevron or Shell. I have to say however, that whenever I use Shell, the car seems a tad more responsive. But Chevron is cheaper in my area, so I usually go with them.

Out of curiosity, what supplier does Kroger (or any of its subsidiaries) use for their gas stations? I can't seem to find the answer anywhere...

sorry to revive the thread, but thought it would be necessary with these gas prices rising. I try to use Costco/Sam's Club gas as much as possible and they definitely have the best prices around here (excluding the nonbrand names). Any thoughts?

I use Sams on a regular basis and I like it....I monitor and log knock and timing and afr and I have yet to see any performance or gas consumption difference when using Sams gas....

Also I have been using Sams gas for over 100K miles and the fuel pump/filter/etc are just fine IMO...

Sams Club is the most convenient and cheapest for me, so I go there, only 87 and 93, but who uses midgrade anyways? No issues with it. If I'm not near there I go to Sunoco, not many other big names here, mostly small ones and crappy Lukoil stations everywhere.

i always use shell v-power...for a couple reasons.

1. thursdays are 5cents off.
2. i get reward points from shopping at giant supermarket (10 cents for every $100 spent)
3. i have a shell CC which gets me 10cents off the pump

if i play my cards right, and fill up on thursdays (like i try to) i get .35cents off on average.

I had a theory many years ago when the car was new that alternating between the Shell and Chevron chemistries would lead to a very clean engine.

Fast forward to a few months ago during the valve adjustment. The intake valves and head ports were perfectly clean as if the engine had never been started. The piston tops were shiny, the only carbon being around the edges of the pistons. The pistons actually surprised me with how clean they were.

I obviously don't have another identical car that was driven identically on crap gas for comparison so was it the gas or the TL's wideband 02s and ECU control doing a great job??? I'm guessing a bit of both, mostly the great fuel feedback control and the fact that since December of '05 the car has only had 2 tanks of non premium fuel.

one of my friends made mention of the sticker on the pumps at Costco stating "may contain up to 10% ethanol(?)"

not sure what the repercussions are of that...
