I hate the fact that BP now owns Amoco, but since they still sell Amoco fuels, then I suppose that's what I'll continue to use. I have reason to use Amoco. It's a white gas.. no dyes. This means much less chance of contamination or clogging of fuel injectors.
Incidently, if anyone has any opinions or arguments to this, I'd love to hear them.

To DMZ;
Interesting you noted that. Several of my friends have said the same thing. My former car, a 2002 Altima SE (of course, V6) ran better on it than on Mobil.. generally my second choice.

Did you know that all the Detroit mfr's use Chevron fuel when they are going through EPA certification? It is not even sold in Detroit - they have to bring it in. Chevron has far more detergents than Amoco, and no Shell is trying to catch up with V-Power.

I was told by a long-term Exxon employee (exec upon retirement) that any fueling station using a single pump for all three grades is basically pumping the same thing. Or at least that's the justification he was given as to why he could only get regular-grade for free...

1) That Exxon guy is full of bull - it is patently silly to think they could get away with it, and it is untrue. The pump has interbal mnechanism to souyrce the right grade you specify. Repeating that the wolrd is flat does not make it true.
2) Someone posted gasoline dyes can clog or contaminate. This is also patently untrue. Dyes have been used for years to diagnose problems in every lube in a car. www.tracerline.com
Think about it - ATF is bright red - DYES! Royal Purple is purple: DYES! LE is red: DYES! Most power steering fluid is colored: DYES! Coolant is green, orange, yellow, red, etc: DYES! DYES are used all over a car with no dire consequences. Any mfr could make its engine oil clear, and some kinda do, but most do not because it interfers with mechanic leak diagnosis. Gasolines can be made essentially clear but an extra refining step, but the vast majority of oil consumed evbery day worldwide is not clear, and we seem to be doing just fine.
As i recall, Amoco went the clear route to differentiate itself during the leaded gas days - people associated the clear as being "non-lead" - but that was for marketing, not for practical engineering reasons.
Now, I am not knocking Amoco - they made a fine product - I hope the BP stuff is just as good. But Chevron has kept its detergency high when others (including BP Amoco) cheaped out and lowered the levels to inefficacious amounts. Chevron kept theirs high, and now V-Power is trying to compete by touting the same thing. Both are not clear - funny thing is, Shell fuel has been used by Ferrari for years - so I guess the F1 teams have missed the boat by using dirty fuel.

Seems like whenever I put in the low cost gas, it costs me me in gas mileage. Sam's Club 91 octane 10% less. On the way to Las Vegas 32 MPG. On the way back with low cost gas 27 MPG. Of course there could be alot of other factors. Evening on the way. In the desert sun on the way back. I don't think all other factors equal the high temperature would make that much of a difference. I would tend to blame it on the gas station I went to. It was a 76 unocal in a Circle K convience store.

Sh_ t. Call me spoiled but that Exxon/Mobil EASYPASS Has got me spoiled. It's a big convience.
So far I get 30+ highway and about 21-26 mixed. And never had one of those 'hard start' problems either.
5 months and 8200 miles

Chevron's your best bet since it contains Techron . . . which no other gas sold in the U.S has. BMW, teh Big 3, etc all use Chevron in all the emission testing and recommend consumers use the gas if available.
East of the Rockies where Chevron isn't available, Mobil is the best choice because it has detergents no other gas has. In this case, every 3,000 miles add a bottle of Techron.
