Brake Dust on Paint?
Brake Dust on Paint?
So I took advantage of the warm weather in the NE and waxed my new 2005 Anthracite TL 6SP this past weekend for the first time.

Those of us with the front Brembos know that they produce alot of brake dust (stopping power is excellent though)
My question (observation for that matter) is that the brake dust appears to be sticking to the sides/back end of my car on the freshly waxed paint surface. The reason why I am thinking it is brake dust is because it matches the dust on the wheels almost identically and it only begins sticking on the after the front wheel well. Anyone else notice this? Is it brake dust? or just dust in general?
Are our pads really producing THAT much dust?
I heard brake dust can be extremely corrosive.
Is it safe to dust the car? I fear that it would scratch the paint. It just feels like such a shame to have to wash it, even though the dirt isn't really "stuck" per say to the car. If I can help it, I don't drive her in the rain...have my 96 civic for bad weather days.
Maybe if I reach the TL's top speed...the dust will blow off? (yeah right, I am crazy, but not even close to that crazy) LOL

Brake Dust
I washed my car a few days ago and after drying, went for a 5 mile drive. I was going to detail some fine scratches on a rear quarter panel and used a shop light to view the finish. When using the light I was amazed at the amount of brake dust present on the finish, mostly on the rear quarters after such a short drive. I had to wash the car again before repairing the scratches.
Geez, maybe I have become anal over this car finish thing.

sounds odd to me...any way it could be rubber from the tires? I've heard of a few people having bad alignment from the factory and leading to rubber on the rear quarter panels due to the tire wear from excessive toe.
Hmmm....pics maybe? Use macro mode on your camera if you can. maybe wipe a section clean for comparison...

If it is stuck IN the finish of the paint, just use a clay bar to remove it. You can get one from Zaino or just get a Clay Magic bar from Pep boys. Works wonders on your paint and makes it feel SOOO smooth. You'll love it!

Sorry no pics but I think it would be impossible to capture on film.
