Bought Philips 6K bulbs and they are DULL

Hey guys,

Long story short.. i bought Philips 6k D2S's off eBay from a store.

Installed the bulbs, but at night they look very dull and me and my buddy thought my headlights went out.... Any input on this? Do they need to break-in? I already Emailed the seller..

Before them i had $25 6k Hong Kong BS which looked amazing, but lasted less then 2 years and started flickering..

I know that 6k is less light output, but HK ones were night and day compared to Philips..

Any advice would be appreciated....

Already emailed seller.

Thanks!

Could have been a knock off Philips meaning they're not genuine Philips bulbs. That seems to happen a lot buying then from eBay.

I though those were hard to buy?? Wasn't there a group buy on HID Planet awhile back? I've heard there's a difference with the baby brother ones too? Not sure.

BTW OP sorry about your bulbs.

I think I got them confused?? I think the Osram 66240 are the one's that are hard to come by and hella expensive? Not so sure about the 66144???

I think everyone is just forgetting the fact that 6000K sucks ass. They also say that they don't want to switch to 4300K because the color sucks, they don't match my switchbacks, they don't match my white sidemarkers, blah blah.. get over it babies.

Osram 5000K CBI's (stronger than 4300K) or 4300K is the only way to go!

Yes, I'm assuming the OP has fakey bulbs.

OSRAM 66240CBI can be had directly from this site: http://www.motivemods.com/OSRAM-Cool...sr-cbi-d2s.htm.

They are a whopping $126/bulb but good luck finding them anywhere else (other than foreign, unreliable sites). Yes, HID planet & theretrofitsource had some group buys and guys were getting them for $190-$220/pair. I missed out on those and got them from the link I provided. They are available immediately. And no, I have nothing to do with this site. They're just a good, reputable company. And most importantly...they sell 100% legit shit. Ease of mind goes a long way.

Well said.

I think for what the OP is clearly going for the CBI's are the way to go. It might cost him some serious coin but he won't be disappointed. I love these bulbs!

Could be one of two things

4300k will give you better lighting than 6000k

Maybe your cheap Hong Kong bulbs burnt the chrome in your projectors.

Osram 66240 are the babies to 66240 CBIs. The retrofit source carries the 66240's. Keep you're eye on HID planet for another GB they're definitely worth it. Check "My Transformation Thread" for some out put shots of the CBI's. Also my avatar is a pic of CBIs.

i had the same issue with my 2g tl. in fact i posted a topic or hijacked someones topic about poor experience with 6000k. look for the topic headlight output in 2g. first of all i do have reflectors, not projectors. I have projectors in my RDX and its not too bright compared to my BMW. i heard that acura uses soft lenses for their projectors to soften the light and cut the harshness which also causes loss of lumens. The solution is probably a clear lens swap.

anyway, for my tl, I tried ebay 6000k D2R and philips 6000k D2Rs. Both horrible. No light output. Switched to ebay 8000k D2S and holy crap! They are brighter than oem 4300k D2R!

here are the ebay 8000k with 2003 TL and factory reflectors:

also 1+ on Osram cool blues. They are bright but don't look as crisp as say 6000k or 8000k and too expensive. They are very similar to oem ones in colour only less yellow. If you find any bright 6000k D2Rs let me know!

8000k brighter than 5000k...not sure about that one. Most 8k are less than 2k lumens. They are far less 'bright'.

If you think 8k is bright, put in 85122+ Phillips 4.3k and you will shit your pants.

What do you think about Amazon.com? I did some research and found some on there too. I wonder if they're legit like this link you posted. Thanks btw!

^Well I know that company (MotiveMods) sells on Amazon too so it could be them: http://www.amazon.com/OSRAM-Cool-Blu.../dp/B004W5VW0G.

Either that, or you found some D2S CBI's that were on Amazon.de (the German 'plug-in' for Amazon). In that case, likely the bulbs you found are legit, but not likely to be very cheap.

Either way, be careful about searching for these bulbs. The OSRAM 66240 CBI is a highly counterfeited product.

Good luck fellas...and if you do decide to spend some bucks and get these bulbs, you won't be disappointed. They are wicked bright!

Thanks guys. I was just very surprised that $25 HK bulbs that were 6K as well looked better and were brighter then Philips. I already contacted the seller. We will see what he says.

Guys,

Seller replied and said this-

We do apologize for the inconvenience. We can try sending another set of bulbs? there is a possible chance that the ballasts may be on their way out but another set of bulbs will determine that. Please let us know. Thank you!

I am going to take them up on his offer and see what happends.

I have had bright 4300k and they are bright but i just do not like the colour. It reminds of halogen lights.

IDK Why Everyone Says 6000K+ Suck ASS. From my OEM Lights to my 8000K Lights I notice very slight Difference. It was more Color wise tho. I Prefer my 8000k over my OEM lights any day. They may not be as Bright as OEM or even 6000k but they do the Job and work way better then Halogen lights and look good with my Switchbacks.
