Bought a 6 Speed with Only 66k Miles

Before I get yelled at for not social distancing I did this back in February.

According to the dealer it was owned by an older wealthy gentlemen on the golf course who took great care of it. Well when you click "list" on the phone you can hear him talk and he sounds like an old guy. He left his home address in the navigation too and I looked it up and it's a very nice home, so I think the dealer was telling the truth. I am guessing it spent it's life in the garage because the paint and headlights look awesome.

Anyway it's got a new timing belt too so I don't have to worry about that. Going to do the GM fluid at some point. Already did the Bluetooth Audio through the XM receiver which is great. I don't plan on doing any modifications really. I'll probably get some all weather floor mats, and I already have my dash cam on the ceiling. Going to make sure to condition the leather seats to make sure they stay nice.

I am not the best at photos, and some of these are the dealer photos. Don't worry, I had them take off their logo from the plate frame.

From one TL 6MT owner to another; welcome! What year, 2004, 2005, or 2006? How much did you pay for the car?

Treat the car well and it will last a good long amount of time.

Its a 2006 model for sure.

OP congrats on the purchase and welcome to the throw your own gear club, take care of that leather seat ASAP. I can see the leather insert piece on driver seat has dry crack already, leatherique is your best friend. Nice pick up nevertheless.

Ahhh, I see the TPMS message, yup, that makes it a 2006. Good call!

That's correct, it is an 06 model! According to the Carfax originally sold in August of 06 so it's probably one of the last one's the made. I probably paid too much for it ($8,500) but it was clean and I wanted it so I am happy with it lol. It came not needing anything done and I also got all 3 keys too.

I am so ready to do a full detail when pollen season is over. Hopefully it passes soon. I've been reading a lot on reddit.com/r/autodetailing too. The driver leather is in good shape for now, but you're right I definitely want to make sure it stays that way. The passenger and rear almost look like they have been used maybe once lol

There are no such thing as "paid too much" don't let other bother you on that subject, as long as you bought a vehicle of your liking and the pricing reflect the actual condition of the car. I wouldn't mind buy that TL for $8500, I get a good laugh all the time when people buying 15 years old used car and they be like "oh there a scratch" "oh there a dent" I gladly remind them its a 15 years old vehicle with 150k miles listed for $4k that they looking at lmao.

Nope, you didn't overpay; at least not from my perspective. Three years ago I bought my extremely clean 11 year old 2006 6MT for $10,000 with 114,000 miles on it. This year you bought a 14 year 2006 6MT car with ~50,000 fewer miles for $8,500, sounds about right; hell, compared to you, I might have been the one who "overpaid".

Thank you both. Yeah, I've found in the used market the manuals at least in my area command a premium. I wanted a manual so I paid it. It's totally worth it too, I really love the way this manual feels compared to some of the newer ones I have driven. Acura did a really good job with it.

Nice find, sort of like my G35. Older owner, kept up on all the servicing, even the maintenance log was fully filled out. Probably not abused either, older owners often stick with manual transmissions because they don't trust those new fangled automatic shifter things.

Getting pretty hard to find one owner vehicles of our vintage!

Hey, I'm older, it has nothing to do with not trusting autotragic transmissions (even though I don't), it has everything to do with being more engaged as a driver and enjoying the experience.

That's a clean TL - the price you paid was right on point for the condition and mileage.

Excellent score!

I have to ask: do you plan to preserve it all original, or perhaps modify it a bit?

Yeah, I never met the guy but based on what I saw with the car that was the impression I got. His house was 5000 square feet on 1.25 acres that overlooks a golf course so I think he got everything done that needed to be and he could definitely afford it lol. He used the GPS a lot and he's got a few Honda dealers and Acura dealers in it. Again according to the dealer he actually bought an automatic this time, so I guess he's moving on from a manual transmission lol.

Yes, they're almost none left. I just took one off the market myself lol!

I already installed the BT45-HON, which is awesome.
Have a dash Cam on the windshield.

Going to do all weather floor mats.
GM fluid for the transmission.
I saw a thread about a valve delete for the transmission that makes it better, so probably that too.
Probably going to order a screen shade so the dash never gets hit with sun.

Other than that still going to be stock. I love how the brake calipers say "Acura," so cool.

One of the "mods" those of us with 6MTs and Type-S models (the only versions of the TL with the front Brembo brakes), is to have the Brembo calipers powder coated, either black or red, or whatever color you want, and then to have either the Acura decals applied, or Brembo decals put on.

Oh, that does sound good. I'll have to think about that because I do like the black too.

Congrats! Very nice find and condition seems excellent. Did you have to look around for a while or just happened to stumble upon this one?

I wouldn't say you overpaid. Low mileage 6MT in that condition I'd pay that price any day.

I had been casually looking for awhile. I got serious went I started this thread. https://acurazine.com/forums/market/976182 Make sure you don't just look at the month I posted it lol.

Needless to say North Carolina doesn't have a lot of manual TL's. I found some but they were torn up a lot of the time.

Thanks, @CLtotheTL32 . You actually might see it around. I went to high school in Charlotte and my parents are in the area still, I live in Raleigh now. I want to back to visit them soon, but it's going to be awhile at first for obvious reasons.

I do love that North Carolina doesn't make us do a front plate. It would look so poor on this car with the Acura in the bumper on the front. Even if North Carolina required that I would probably pass lol

I have the close clone of your car but 5k less miles and aspec kit. Bought from forum member about a year ago, hauled it back from IL. I would make a suggestion that you treat the drivers seat with some conditioner, sooner rather than later, from the pics it looks cracked and those will only get worse. I slathered it on mine, it soaked it up.

Havent had to do much the PO was on top of everything and I even got the receipts and extra bottles of the GM synchro mesh, I did have to restuff the center armrest though. Also did fluid baseline and cleaned/polished exhaust tips, made a huge difference with my OCD.

Enjoy! The car is such a joy on the open road and there are a lot of those these days.

Funny, I grew up in Cary and now I'm in Charlotte I'm SO glad we don't require a front plate.

Yeah, I am going to do that soon. Luckily I am not driving much anymore because nothing is open lol

Sounds like you have another great car. Hope you enjoy it!

Look at that small world. And yes, our plates here might be boring but at least they only give you one lol

looks like a ......Leith Honda Aberdeen plate! lol

Cool thing is I have family from Aberdeen to Bel Air, MD. I bought my Type-s from MD last year. Good luck with the new whip! Also buy some OEM rubber mats. I have some if you are interested.

lol, I actually had a great experience, but I think those things are so ugly. No dealer logos for my car. Blank like it was designed to be lol

Yeah, if you're selling mats give me a PM.
