Body Side Moulding

Has anyone ordered this for their new TL?

I've got it ordered and expect my new TL in within the next week or two. As much as I travel and see door dings I thought this is something I wanted to have.

My current car, and most i've owned, had a strip of some sort to help stop ignorant car doors swinging wildly at my ride.

Anyone have this side moulding on and how does it look?

My understanding is that I can have it taken off inside of 2 weeks if I do not like the look.

mrpete - As are many on this forum I am extremely picky about how my vehilce looks. I have the pearl, auto, navi, with side moulding, front bra, (for trips only) and rear wing spoiler. I couldn't be happier with how the SM looks. Others will disagree, which is their right, but I, along with a number of others, think it actually enhances the look of the car. I was concerned about it breaking up the sweet lines, but the SM blends into the car very well.

Pete,

Just picked up my (should say my wife's as of the 25th) new TL on Tuesday (Desert Mist with matching SM). I to was concerned on how it might look until I saw it on a silver TL that I test drove. I agree with Stollerydd in that it enhances the lines of the TL IMO. Plus you do get some protection. I was tired of having to worry about car door dings with my last car (Honda S2000). Bottom line is the Acura TL looks great with or without the SM so it's your choice. Again, without SM it is a large sheet metal target for doors and other items - SM isn't the cure all but it helps.

Pete,

I've got the side molding on my Abyss Blue and I think it looks fine. The molding is less noticible on dark colors. Since I park in a public garage without assigned parking, I wanted the extra protection from door dings. Granted it won't protect you from every door, but it does help. Do a search in this forum, as I posted some pics of my car on another thread. If you park anywhere that you can't guarantee that your car is protected, I would get them.

As for removing them, I have no idea. I assume they are stuck on and not physically attached with any fastners, so they should come off, but you may have to have the dealership do it so the paint isn't damaged.

Does anybody know where you can get this from an aftermarket location?

My dealership wants way too much to put this on. If I can get it myself I can install.

Thanks.

Since it's an Acura part I don't think you can get it from anyone but Acura. You might be able to get something similar though...

Are they just stuck on with some adhesive or is there drilling required?

My salesman said that they are stuck on with adhesive and that I should just buy them and install them myself. He agreed that the price at his dealership was a bit too much.

Yes, they are put on with adhesive. Note: I paid $109 for mine and installation was but 30 minutes, so the charge was $34.
$150 for installation? Some gouging going on there!

My car has the body side molding. View my photogallery. I think it looks good with the car. Hardly notice them. Total damage $210 installed by the dealer.

Nice pics. Thanks for sharing them. The sild moulding does look ok. I'd heard at the dealership some don't look too good with it.

As for pricing they added $279 (acura website lists $175) installed. The dealership also listed $329 protection package <website $277> and wheel locks @ $69 <website $49>).

I had the dealership throw in all of the above considering I"m going to be paying MSRP on my 6spd/navi. system. It was the least they could do.

Lastly, my car has made it out of the plant this week and with any luck will be at the dealership early this coming week!?

In all fairness, potential buyers should realize that the only door dings these side molding will absorb are the ones that come from doors that line up with your molding. There are plenty of other doors that will make contact with your sheet metal (doors, fenders, quarter panels) and cause dings.

Those of you that have the moldings, if you're happy with the looks, great. But I'd still be very careful where I park if I were you.

I agree. They won't stop everything, however one dent in the door would probably cost more than the moldings did so any protection is worth it. About the look, I don't even notice them as they blend in so well imo.
