Body Side Molding Removal
I have found a great deal on the perfect car, but it has those ugly side moldings. Has anyone taken them off. Sratches or problems or is it pretty easy and leaves no trace?

Easy to take off. Depends how long they have been on if they leave a trace, but I don't think you will have a problem there.
My shop guy had to take mine off twice, first because he put the ones on the front doors too far back and the door edge guard moldings wouldn't fit. They came off real easy.
The second time was because he put the rear door moldings too close to the front and they rubbed on the door edge guard moldings when the door opened. I watched him do these, and he just start carefully peeling back the molding. He did such a good job that the molding wasn't damaged, so he gave me the moldings in case I ever needed them again. All I need to do is put some more sticky tape on them.
If they seem to resist, or if you want to be careful, you can heat them with a hair dryer, which will soften the tape.

I used to work in a shop and have done this many times. Just Don't go ripping them off. If you have a heat gun that will help, if not a hair drier. Just keep heating it and pulling slowing and pull it at an angle it works better. If the previous owner took care of the car it won't look faded. What color is the car btw?

O man,,, another BSM hater.... INCONCEIVABLE!! :-)
Yes they will come off with relative perfect results. I would recommend just leaving them on if you can stand it.... They may grow on you??
-- Common, it was just a thought.....
What year/color of TL?
Cheers

For Duckguy - with being that new you shouldn't have any paint/color issue with your removal.
Good luck with your purchase

I've had mine on my SSR for a year and they are starting to discolor, I want to remove them, I really do. But then I have park FAR AWAY from everything to avoid door dings.
Oh the pain of being lazy!!!

I guess they look better then a dinged up door. If only they were magnetic or something so you could put them on while parked. But that would be too much work, and they would get stolen. Anywho, they cant be held on with anything more then glue, can they?

The Puffy Lumpers won't protect your doors against cars taller than a Yugo. If you're anywhere near an SUV, minvan, or pickup you're dead meat despite making your car look butt ugly.
The TL's design is based on straight, angular, muscular lines. The Puffers are rounded and dainty. Worst of all, the TL's most distinctive feature is it's deep squared groove that runs down the side of the car; any first year design student will tell you that an indented rectangle shouldn't live 12 inches above a debossed oval.
Better to live a week with a ding and pay $200 to get it removed than to live three years with no dings and those ugly Lumpers.
