Body side molding, never realized
so I've had my 07 type s for 1 year now and have always picked up good info from acurazine. I've just today realized the bsm that my car has is not stock. I always thought that people removed bsm and honestly thought it'd should've been built that way because it looks much better. now to figure out best way to remove it without causing damage

why bother removing though, wouldn't you want them to protect your car from idiotic people in parking lots who door ding you?

I'd keep the BSM. It doesn't look out of place on that color IMHO. I'd switch the wheels though, I believe we already this discussion before.
If you decide to remove the BSM, be prepared for a little buffing around where it was even with the glue completely removed. When I removed my emblems on my 04 earlier this year sand and other particles had made a slight contour of the emblems in the clear coat. I regretted it at first, but after a little elbow grease as justn says it was fixed.

I read earlier that the body side molding doesn't protect the car at all.
If you think about it, it's pretty true.
The place where they sit is not where the door sticks out most. The place that sticks out most is closer up a bit towards the door handles.
Another thing someone brought up are SUVs - they sit much higher.
Their doors would open higher and ding your car for sure yeah?
Not just SUVs can sing it, most sedans have the rear door point higher (to go over the dog leg).
My buddies 2015 Elantra for example.
Those rear doors have a wicked point.
Remove them if the look bothers you, but functionality don't make a difference.
Cheers broskis

OP,
When I bought my car a year ago, my TL had BSM and you can see all the paint marks from other cars hitting it. It did keep dings away from the door but the BSM had so many paint marks on it that I removed it. I like to park far away from other cars and walk the extra 20 steps to protect my car.
But like everyone said, be prepared to clay, buff, and wax the car. Took me less than 15 minutes on a nice hot day to remove them. Good luck!

When I took mine off they left a bad mess of adhesive tape. I was able to get most off with various products and elbow grease but in the end I had to come back over with an eraser wheel to remove every last bit.
Then polished back over the paint with some Meguiar's M205
Peel back the passenger side back door a little and see if you are able to tell a difference in the paint that is behind the bsm. Its possible this paint hasn't seen any sun for the majority of the life of the car. Worth checking out
