Body Side Molding on 07 TL Type S

I am thinking of getting Body Side Molding on my TL. The pictures on the Acura site make the car look a little strange when that feature is selected. Has anyone seen a car with Body Side Molding installed?

FYI, body side molding is the horizontal molding located about 1/3 of the way up the door. I always get it confused with Door Edge Guard for some reason.

I have the body side moldings on my black TL-S...I'm glad I got it...doesn't really affect the look of the car, nor does it stand out...and best of all you're better protected from those morons that swing open their doors and hit the side of your car

That is the main reason I want to get it. No matter how far away you park some jerk always parks next to you and smashes his door into yours.

The other question I have is does it actually help? Based on the pictures it looks like the molding does not stick out as far as the top of the door.

FWIW, my car is blue. I think that is why it seems to stick out more. On a black car I can see it blending in better.

I got it on my silver 06 and like it. The molding sticks out the furthest.

Yeah just as sandynmike said...the the moldings stick out the furthest...can't say they've helped yet, as I've been parking a mile away from everyone else haha...but I'm sure they will once/if I park with the crowd.

imho- it's a personal preference looks wise. functionally, will it protect? i think it depends on what type of car/SUV is parked next to yours.

Can you snap a couple pics of your TL with the molding? I was considering this for our new TL, but would like to see them installed first. We had the dealer install the splash guards/mud flaps and they look pretty good. Hopefully they will keep down dirt off the road.

Thanks for the suggestions and pictures. I think I am going to get the side molding installed. It looks a lot better on a real car than the fake one on the Acura site. And it looks a lot better than a giant dent.

I too considered the BSM when I bought my car in 2006. It turned out the my Sales person talked me out of it, saying that it is too low to offer enough protection. I try to park near curbs or handicap spots and so far haven't gotten any dings (yet).

A search would have brought you to this thread: How to post your favorite pics & Avatar???

I suggest you use imageshack over photobucket. They tend to expire less quickly and you don't have to create an account.

I don't think it detracts from the look at all on this car.

here's a better pic of the moldings with a side shot of the cars body line...

I just installed my BSM few days ago, took just 30 minutes. My wife isn't exactly the most cautious/conscious driver. We always argue over how careful she needs to be. My 7 month old car is quickly starting to look like a 5 yr old.

Most people just don't like them but I am in the minority that does. Pics don't do them justice they look better in person. I think we're so used to seeing the TL without them that when they are put on they give the car that "added on" effect. I looked in my parking lot and 90% of the cars from Civics to Mercedes had them. I'm sure if you took it off those cars they would look naked.

Had some old lady park next to me with me in the car. Her passenger (another old lady) just flung her door into mine (and not slowly!) and the body side molding took the bite. Had a little scuff mark that went away with some scratch doctor (i think i got lucky lol)!! There is a veryyyyyyyyyyyy slight crease in the BSM, but hey..at least its not the metal! And no...i did not yell or say anything to the old lady, as she was, well, old. Now if she was younger, I would have cussed her out! Hahahahaha! In my opinion...BSMs do not look goofy after you get used to it. Hope this helps in your decision

I have an 07 TL-S and got the body side moldings. I was really apprehensive at first also. I made a thread about it too. Anyways, they turned out really nice. My friends say that it actually makes the car look more aggressive. And when the time comes that the only available spot is a tight one, I'm a little less worried.

I alway's park way's away from everbody myself , side molding or not !.... all car's sit at different height's ,and could easily by-pass the molding and still dent the vehicle !, save your money and park away from everyone else!......and save your cash to pay the "DENT Doctor instead!"
