The blue light from above
After about a week in my TL, I noticed two blue LEDs by the rear-view mirror. For the life of me I could not figure out what they were (moved my hands in front and didn't see a difference). Then, I noticed, when it was dark out, the blue lights reflect on the metal trim and give a faint blue glow. I thought that was pretty cool, or am I totally missing the point of it.

Ah, Montgomery Village, MD. Moved from there two years ago. Lived there in '87-91 and '98-2002. Mont village Ave, 270 and all that. I'm sure the traffic is still hell.
yep, blue LED lights do just what you say! They don't do secret government scanning or survelance!

It's still bad
I live on the East side so I can get out and avoid Mont Village/Lakeforest. We love it here.

FYI: The blue light is for "Ambient lighting".
It lets you see stuff at night or I guess you can consider it mood lighting.
If you look at the new Honda Accords..they have amber LED's for ambient lighting.

ducnine hit the nail on the head. The lighting illuminates the center console area just enough to see things at night without destroying your night vision. It's handy for locating things in the cup holders without blinding yourself with the regular interior lights.
You gotta love the thought and engineering put into this car!

Yeah BMW's engineers put alot of thought into the ambient lighting when they first introduced it and have since been doing this for years. I am Glad Acura's engineers finally thought about it and ended up lifting the idea!!!

With apologies up front,
Let the Blue Light Special
Shine down on me.
Oh let the Blue Light Spe-e-e-e-cial
Shine it's ever loving Blue LED Light on me.
It does let you see the console, but seriously if you have a stick you should be able to tell what gear it's in just from feeling the position of the lever. Clear your mind, find your center, be the car.
That's the zen of driving a stick; no ambient light needed.

BMW also invented orange guages. Is that in the plus or minus column?

Ania, I definitely understand, the first couple of days w/ the car I always found it easier to just look at the speed and the revs to figure out what gear I was in if I was confused. At least, I found that more intuitive than looking down at the lever...
