Blackstone Report

The TL is starting to rack up some mileage so I decided to get it's first Blackstone oil report. The results look good. 137,000 miles. Been using Mobil 1 0W-40 since about 90,000 miles.

That is looking really good. I noticed you went 5700 miles between oil changes, what percentage was the oil life at?

It's $25 for the standard test, add $10 extra for the TBN which shows how much active additive the oil has left in it. This helps you judge your change intervals if you want to extend your oil life.

The test average is 5700 miles, I actually only went 4500 on this sample.

I have a handful of these reports on my car. It's great info to have. They're turnaround time is quick too. Like 48hrs.

Also - get one for your tranny fluid. Very helpful for preventative maintenance. My motor oil reports from Blackstone tell me to go 8k between changes with the full synthetic I use. I never do though.

How many miles do you typically go? I usually do about 5k intervals but that is probably overkill. I don't go by the MID at all.

I go 5,000 mile intervals, but my dealer stopped using Mobil 1 back in 08' & now use Agip dino or Synthetic. I always use synthetic, I figure if Agip is used in Lambo's & Ferrari's it can't be bad.

I get a SOS report free from work, 02 cl-s, can go 8K plus on oil changes with regular dino oil, mostly highway driving. change the oil every 7.2K miles. Almost 130K on it now...

I usually go about $1,000 past the MID. According to blackstone I can go further.

A few reports that I have handy in my photobucket. At one point I was advised to go 10K on oil changes.
