Blacked out headlights question

Hey guys I just blacked out my headlights...I'll post some pics up later...but I got a few questions...

First, I got switchbacks from ijdmtoy, but when i turn on my turn signal, they only blink amber, even with the headlights on...from all the videos of switchbacks that ive seen, they blink amber and white when the headlights are on, and amber when the headlights are off....did I get the wrong switchbacks....when the headlights are on, they stay white as they should

Ok second...I blacked out the chrome reflector for the turn signal...they look great, but during the day the turn blinker is barely visible... Any suggestions?

Thanks alot

Seems like you got version 2 of the switchbacks. With the headlights on, the white will turn off completely and let the amber do its thing. On version 1, the white and amber alternate off and on with the headlights on.
With everything off, only the amber should blink.

Hope this helps.

Did you use glossy black or flat/matte black? Glossy still reflects and if you painted the chrome turn signal piece flat/matte your shit out of luck and the only way to fix it would be to repaint it because these pieces are VERY hard to find.

I've wanted to black my headlights for so long, but I'm still too scared to do it. How hard was it?

its a little scary putting the lights in the oven for your first time, but i think its more time consuming than hard....it took me all weekend....partially because ive never done something like that before, and partially because im very meticulous

You can try the Type-S style clear diffusers. http://www.uniquestyleracing.com/20actlclhedi.html

I actually made the same mistake you did by painting the reflector piece. I sent my headlights to Rich and he painted the high gloss silver since their was no way to get the chrome back and they've worked great so far, and he also made a custom clear lense to go over it.

Here are a set of pics of my headlights before he sent them back to me.

You have your halo's on when the car is off? How long do you expect the halo's to last with them on all the time? Are you planning on replacing them at some point? Halo's look sick btw.

I've had LEDs in my previous cars like this (not in the form of halos, but just pointed into the reflective chrome of older headlights)....had them running for 5 years and never died...battery never died....it even went for 3 months without being started, and the battery was fine...the LEDs use such little current, that it barely uses any battery power

for the halos, u need to tap into one of the wires for the turn signal, i forget which one. this way the halos turn on and off with your parking lights.

the clear diffusers really dont help at all for the turn bulbs. i left a little portion of the turn signal area chrome and later added the clear diffusers, it helped only slightly on the sides. its more for looks imo.

Is that seriously $120 for JUST the clear diffusers?

Hey, thanks Lupe! I appreciate that.

You really did do a great job. I'd love to see the halo's and the LED's on at the same time.

yupp. i got mine through the group buy for about 70 or 80 shipped from what i remember. honestly a waist of money imo. I would say they do help a LITTLE for light output for the turn signals, but if i had to redo my lights, i would leave more of the side chrome if u are concerned about the brightness of the turn signals.
